I'm becoming a knifesnob!

The best answer: "No way Grandpa. I'll get you a screwdriver so you don't cut yourself."

That's probaly what I would've said.

If I thought I lacked the ability to decline the use of my Sebenza as a loaner chisel/screwdriver/concrete scraper, I'd carry a screwdriver to loan out, instead.

I too have responded with fear and hostility when loved ones have asked to borrow my Sebenza Screwdriver. They react the same way when I request to use their head for a sledge hammer.;)

Sheee-ooooot!

Here's the story. The other day my brother and I were over at my Grandfathers house helping him drain a diesel tank. He had gone to the back yard to get a spare hose that he could attach to the pump and when he came back around he also brought a little clamp to attach the hose to the pump. He said " Either of you boys got a knife with a screwdriver or a knife I could use?" My brother who does not always have an edc knife responded that he did not have a knife on his person. Now I had my BM in my right front pocket but the moment the words knife and screwdriver were used together I started getting these horrible images in my head and I was thinking about the cost of my knife. After all this passed through my head I still could not lie to my Grandfather. I said " Yes I have a knife and no you cannot use it."
Am I really turning into a knife snob?

No I don't think your being a snob. I think your being realistic the BM is clearly not a screwdriver. I believe a SAK in your front left pocket would avoid these issues ;)

We should all carry multitools for just this purpose.

I think being a knife snob would be turning up your nose at knives that are not up to your standards. For example, a knife snob would refuse to accept the $5 CCC that his six-year-old daughter bought for him because she knew he liked knives.

Well put!!!

knife snob no, I don't blame you and as mentioned above a knife is a pretty poor screwdriver. however you're missing the more important question, why do you let your brother wander around without a knife?? this is serious and i think an intervention is in order. that boy needs help. later, ahgar
