I'm becoming more interested in CRK. And I have questions.

My Inkosi has NOT needed locktite either.

This is confusing. So if the factory set pivot tension/detent is satisfactory then just leave it alone ? And if I want to change it just add a drop of Loctite when putting back the pivot screw ?

Also , the Umnumzaan seems like a great deal ($425 brand new).

Of the three Inkosi in our household, none have needed any adjustment of the pivot from the factory.

The Inkosi is made to allow adjustment and the replacement of loctite for user preference, but many users find that after disassembly and reassembly often the rements of the factory loctite is enough to hold the screw at the desired tension.

The 21 allows no tension adjustment, you screw down snug and the tension is what it is set by the factory. The tension can loosen slightly as washers wear in. When washers wear or are damaged they are replaced and refit at spa for cost of shipping +\- a few bucks.

Don't over think it. If you want to take it apart as soon as you get it, then get after it. That's why you get the tools to break it down with along with grease and Loctite. If you feel the need to make an adjustment on the pivot, don't hesitate to.
The great thing about a CRK is when you put it all back together, it goes back to factory centering and smoothness. Almost like you know what you're doing. :D

The Umnumzaan is priced reasonably, you get a pattern that gives you more grip, a nice blade style where the false top is functional as a scrapper and a soft opening with the O-rings.
As far as Loctite is concerned, use it if you think the pivot will back out and lose the screw. What you're gonna find is that with the pivot screw out, the knife functions normally. It won't go off center until the stop pin screw or back spacer screw is loosened.

What Ajack60 said.

I have used a drop of Loctite (purple) on the Inkosi and 25 pivot when I have disassembled, but I don't know if I have actually needed to since I have never not used it. But it is very simple - a drop on the threads, set it to the desired tension, and leave it. I have not needed to mess with it at all, it stays where I leave it.

I know some folks have not used Loctite and the pivot stays put just fine without it, I have just not tried it without the Loctite.

Well gents , let me say thanks. I appreciate all the info. I'm heading out shortly for the night so I prob won't be posting again until tomorrow. I'll be placing my order tomorrow morning. I'll be deciding tonight. My poor gf is going to get completely ignored tonight since I'm sure I'll be deep in thought on which knife to order. I don't dare tell her that though. Tonight at the restaurant every time she gets up to go to the bathroom I'll be pulling out my phone and staring at pictures of CRK goodness.

And on a final note , the Umnumzaan just seems like a hell of a deal compared to other CRK's.

Get the Inkosi...I have 3 of them because they represent years of subtle improvements on CRK's. I started with the small, and then bought a large plain. Then came back for a large black micarta. I owned a 25 and sold it. The Inkosi improved on the 25. These are absolutely wonderful knives because they represent years of subtle, gradual, and functional improvements. Anyway, go for it!

If you're like most of us, it really doesn't matter which you get first, you'll have to try a few others just to see what u might be missing. Some of us bought a handful or more with plans to sell all but the ONE but just can't quite bring ourselves to let go of any of them yet.

Jerome Hovaere integral with zinc scales

I've owned all of the large CRK folders and the Umnumzaan is my favorite.

Turns out a friend of a friend has a few knives that he never uses and was considering selling. One of which is a large Inkosi w/plain ti scales. He's apparently more into flippers nowadays so I made him an offer for the Inkosi and he jumped on it. The plane titanium scales are not my first choice but for a knife that has hardly ever been used at such a great price , I'll take it. I'm gonna pick it up tonight or tomorrow. I got such a great deal. So great that in addition to the Inkosi I was also able to pick up another knife I wanted from another company. So it's win-win !

Nice! You got a great knife at what sounds like a bargain...hard to beat that.

Thank ya. I sold off a lot of my duplicates over the last month. Now I feel the need to fill up that empty space in my knife drawers with new blades.

Man I read this whole thread looking for something else (inkosi disassembly tips) but now I'm curious if you enjoyed the knife, still have it and or bought any more?

#1 ) Yes......The screws on a sebenza 21 tighten down and when they are snug, everything is smooth and the knife it set. The tolerances are that tight. No need for lock-tite. Its how all the sebenzas were designed before the 25 came out. The 25 took the adjustable pivot of the umnumzaan and incorporated it into the sebenza. This is where the lock-tite came in as the pivot is adjustable. Just a small turn will either make the knife tight or looser. The inkoso is similar to the 25 and zaan in that regard. The 21 and what preceeded it is simpler in design and easier to take apart on the only needing one simple hex wrench........As a note, I bought my 25 when they first came out and still have yet to take it apart and I carry it OFTEN. No need to constantly take them apart. Many I have never even done so that were purchased new. I only do it initially when I buy used ones. But Yes, the inkosi uses the adjustable pivot like the 25 and the zaan that uses lock-tite.

#2.) Its just a personal preference.. I like the older original 21 design and the regulars far more than them even. Both the 21 and 25 ( very similar to the inkosi ) slice and cut very well, regardless of blade thickness and design. The insingo is a hell of a slicer though I must add. I DO like the thicker blade of the 25. But If I had to pick ONE, It would be a regular hands down followed by the 21. I do love my 25 though. As for zaans. I sold all that I had. Dont have an inkosi as I have a 25 and to me, they are the same, only a slightly different version of it.

#3.) Quality & Customer Service. Both go hand in hand and is what makes CRK who they are. Its what has kept me coming back for well over 100+ CRK's.

Good information.

My Inkosi needed loctite out of box. Birthday of 12/29/16

All the screws needed loctite as well including the floating stop pin.

Haven't you historically been very active in the Spyderco forum? I started out being hooked on Spyderco's. Have a bunch of PM2's, GB's, Syzcz, etc. I'm now selling off PM2's to get more CRK's. Just get one, and you will understand.
