I'm completely covered in INFI dust so it must be...

a rematch, the 50 dollar sander vs the trusty NMFBM.

I really wasn't happy at all with the job I did on the NMFBM, I didn't have sharp enough belts to really get past the dimpling and grey, so it was an exercise in futility. I was pretty much fighting a tank with a sling shot. I figured now that I ordered some new belts, and the sarsquatch was a success I'd finally defeat the beast.

I've gone through two respirators, had to clean my safety glasses off about 30 times and used up 3 belts just to get it down to a 40 grit finish. This knife is going to freaking break me. I keep having to wash my face because it's just covered in grinding gunk.

Well, it's a start.. I probably won't get past 120 grit tonight, but i'm gonna try.

Atleast all the dimples are gone.

I really need to get back into my little workshop, but god i'm tired of getting showered in sparks.

Hahaha! I know the feeling, having done 2 squatches, NMSFNO, FFBM, Skinny ASH1, and the BWM. Lots of INFI dust! Hang in there. Once you get to the finer grits, it goes smoother. Nice work! :D:thumbup:

I'm trying to get motivation to go back in the room and finish a little more but it's hard. I'm already out of 40 grit belts that are sharp, so I had to order more tonight.

A thinned down fully convex NMFBM is well worth the effort:thumbup:

But wait till you try a Killa Zilla  complicated hand movements and you really need to do it in phases to tell when you have it right with testing in between ...

My NMFBM was the benchmark for where I wanted to be though ... that size and depth of blade is for me "ideal" .... now I want to do my NMSFNO to match the NMFBM .... but I try and grind outdoors if possible .... the dust blows away better ...

You are doing awesome 230, I can't wait to see your finished product. Keep it up....sweatin and hurtin will only make your blade that much more special. Plus it will be a cool feat to accomplish.

Oooooh. The KZ ! Man that's a lot of steel to work down. Wore out three belts on that one. :D

I'm done for now, both these knives are users (I went out and beat on the SARsquatch today), they're both going to get scratched up heavily anyway.

Great work 230. BTW, when ur belts start to feel dull take some scrap metal with a sharp angle on it and put it to the belt. It will get you some more life out of your belts.

230 I noticed you had a ffbm and now you've got a nmfbm do you like it better than the ffbm. Also your knives look very nice. I much prefer the way you've got them finished now veruses before. Thanks for the pics,

Thanks for the tip!

Hands down the NMFBM, especially after giving it a zero edge. Convex grind > Saber grind

The NMFBM bites deeper.

Thanks 230 just trying to decide if i should invest in a nmfbm being i have a ffbm. You know its hard to handle them when you don't have ready access to compare them. thanks again,

Well, noticed I still had some low grit scratches, so went back to the drawing board. Ended up going way to high a finish with cork belts and ended up with a pure mirror finish... Sigh. Re sanded the mirror finish out back to satin. Now i'm really finished, I promise :D

I just have to hand sand the few spots where the belts couldn't get, then i'm good to go.

I will say it looked kind of cool with the mirror finish, but wouldn't hold up to use.

Nope, they don't unless you go all the way up to like 30,000 grit on a Water-stone, then they hold up better from what I have seen.

I wouldn't use a polished knife personally, but that's me. :)
