i'm curious

Not too long ago I thought I'd never buy another foreign knife. Then I couldn't find a fully serrated us built folder other than microtech. So I bought a Japan spyderco. Then I bought an Al mar. Then I bought 2 cold steels. Props to CS for having such a large selection. I think Ive had my fill of serrations for now, unless emerson steps it up with a fully serrated model.

i'm curious... Would you buy more cold steel knives if they where made in USA?
ZTD

Nope, I buy the knives I like, I don't care where they're made. I've got blades made in America, Taiwan, China, Japan, El Salvador, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, New Zealand...if Cold Steel keeps making stuff I like at prices I don't mind paying, I'll keep buying it, regardless of where it's made.

If CS continues the trend of better materials and designs and they were made in the USA, I would be happy.

US construction would be nice, but I'm fine with Japan or Taiwan as long as the materials and workmanship are at the level I've come to expect.

Where they are currently made doesn't stop me from buying them occasionally now, but I probably would consider them more often if they were made in America. On the other hand, the price might be above what I could afford to pay if they did. I think they have a good niche now, with strong, affordable stuff, and interesting designs. The quality you get for such a low price is probably one of their best selling points.

I notice that a lot of you are saying that the price would go up and it probably will but they could do it without the price going up just look at buck knives I can get a U.S. made folder that was made overseas for under $20 it's the same price it was when it was made overseas.

Putting aside the price it Looks like most of you are saying yes to U.S that being said you have cured my curiosity but that not to say don't post any more maybe if a lot of people post there opinion maybe cold steel will start considering some U.S production.

Heck maybe we'll get Lucky and lynn thompson will read this lol

Thanks

PS: sorry for the poor grammar it's late I'm lazy deal with it

+1

The "who would build them" question above is a good one, too. Their old usa stuff was made by the old Camillus. Not sure who they'd get to make their stuff domestically now.

As to the who would build them and say....gerber lol kidding
Couldn't they start building them there selfs open there own factory here in the us

I'll spare you an overly detailed lesson on manufacturing, but suffice it to say, for a company like Cold Steel (which to my knowledge has always contracted out the manufacture of their products) it is no simple task to simply open a factory and start their own manufacturing process. Such an endeavor would surely shoot their prices through the roof.

Additionally, I doubt that Cold Steel has that much interest in bringing manufacturing back to the US. I'm guessing that the percentage of their customer base that cares enough to affect their buying habits is pretty small. Also, as things are now, they are getting good quality products produced for them at a price that allows them a good profit margin. They might be able to bring production back to the states, but they would either have to up their retail prices, or take a big hit to their profits.

I buy the knife , not the country. Is cold steel my favorite knife company? No.I own them because they are cheap, and tough if the price went up because of made in U.S.A and no upgrades were made to the steel or their blade coating ,then I wouldnt own another.

While it's true that CS has never had a US manufacturing base, its also possible that there may be small US manufacturers that
would be open to contracting with CS. When I look at the retail prices of many US manufacturers I find it hard to swallow that knives cannot be offered at a competitive price unless manufactured overseas. Because CS has such a wide and diverse product line obviously
this would simply be a small part of their production scenario. If CS were introducing their 01 fixed blades under US manufacture, I would consider it. But a Taiwan made SK-5 to Taiwan made 01 doesn't excite me. I admit that I am partial to US made carbon steel
blades and Japanese made stainless steels.
