Well as some of you may have read in the last couple of for sale threads....I was never able to score on the DoTD due to my work schedule....I was advised to send an email directly to Auntie and see if there were any blems available that had not already been sold...sometimes she has extras that are not yet spoken for and that is what I was hoping to luck into!

So I sent an email.... I had 3 types of Kuks on my mind and was looking to scratch at least 1 of the itches!

I asked about a heavy chopper... AK, Ganga Ram, Bonecutter style.....something beastly for heavy wood processing tasks

second I wanted a light fast blade, something quick in the hand...the opposite of the chopper....Kobra or Sirapati style blade

lastly... I wanted one not to heavy, not too light, not too large or small....a kinda middle of the road everyday use knife...the " everyman's Kuk "

Auntie was quick to reply! and informed me I was indeed in luck.... she had 3 blades that just MIGHT scratch that itch!

18 inch WWII
18 inch M43
20 inch Sirapati

without a seconds hesitation I jumped on all 3 thinking it was perfect for everything but the heavy chopper and that still allowed me to enjoy the DoTD lottery and " try my luck "

Now, this is where it gets rough.....

These are not only my FIRST HI blades.... they were bought sight unseen based on Aunti's recommendations....and now I'm going crazy with excitement waiting to see what shows up in my box! This will literally be the first time in my nearly 50 year old adult life that I'll open a box of toys without already knowing EXACTLY what's inside it!

Its killin me!!!

Should be a good way to go. Opening a box from Auntie is always exciting and a joy even when you know what inside.

Should be even better when you don't.

Wife asked me what I want for Christmas this morning. I just told her send auntie whatever money we got and have her throw something in a triangle box.

Sounds like you took care of all your itches.

M43 for the chopper....super beastly!
Siru for quick, light, deadly duty
WWII for the everyday tasker...

Very nice!

The anticipation is definitely part of the fun.

Some of the 18" M43s fall in the heavy chopper category. There's a lot of variation in weight, depending on the kami, the piece of steel he picks up to start with, and other mysterious factors. I'd say an 18" M43 might run anywhere from 28 oz to 38 oz, and the heavier ones are just as beastly as an AK, Bonecutter or Ganga Ram.

The 18" WWII is probably your middle of the road knife, but it will be big by most western knife standards. The WWII models tend to have thick spines (often at or near 1/2") but they typically run lighter weight than M43s of similar length.

The 20" Sirupati is your light, fast blade. Some of the 20" Sirupatis are pretty beefy because of the length, but you're probably a strong guy since you mention heavy wood processing tasks.

I hope you enjoy them and post pictures.

aye, pics will come! normally I can get a good feel for a blade by looking at pics and knowing its weight in this case I know neither LOL....got no pics and no weights....just blade lengths....but I'm assuming that as I asked for the 3 different styles, and was suggested the 3 I bought, that Auntie thinks she has all 3 bases covered so I expect one of them to qualify as the heavy chopper, very likely the M43....if not no worries, I'll just watch for a 32+oz blade to come across the DoTD and see if I can score it.

LOL like a kid at Christmas....I keep digging thru old threads at all the blades like the 3 I'm getting and wondering which will be most like mine!

tick tock tick tock....come on mailman!

Let us know if the blades Yangdu handpicked for you hit the mark, or if she totally missed the target.

She rarely does, but who knows? It could happen.

You're going to love that M43. Not light and fast, but it'll chop like a demon mule outta Missouri! You pull that out on an attacker and you won't need a thin, light blade. He's gonna be shaking in his boots so bad from seeing that humongous brush hog comin' at him, he ain't gonna fight. Be too nervous to pull the trigger. All you gotta do is yell real loud, goggle yer eyes out and look kinda insane like me all at the same time, an' he's GONE baby! Bawanna thinks you gotta slobber or drool at the lips a bit for more shock effect, but I'll leave that up to you. If I could only have one khuk for everything, it'd be the M43. And that's no BS.

Well when I'm a fightin I can't very well maintain the position of my drool cup so the slobber and drool really isn't an option but I do think it does add a nice effect, kind of a rabid dog sort of similarity if you follow the direction of my creek.

I don't have an M43 YET. But I've seen and held a few and they are serious business for sure.

Man after my own heart!

That Siru is the only one I can speak of. I dont have a WWII or M43. The Sirus do vary in weight but they sure are sweet blades. I have plenty of Sirus and I like them all but my favorite is probably 20" and 25". If I could legally EDC the smaller ones then Id be packing a 12" 0r 15". All around great knife. You wont be disappointed.

Some Sirupati eye candy:D

My first Siru was a 25" made by Tirtha Kami.

well my GIANT box arrived!

VERY excited...( will get pics up tomorrow just too many irons in the fire being this close to thanksgiving and with the kids out of school and Momma off work for the week )

It turns out one of the blades was a Kumar! VERY nice fit and finish...

The other 2 though...I'm unable to find reference to in any of the makers mark threads....it kinda looks like a demon head complete with 2 horns?...almost like a little slightly elongated skull with 2 horns? ...... I've seen nothing that even comes close in the Kami marks threads and stickies....

they are not quite as well finished as the Kumar but still VERY nice blades!

Looks though like I'll still be on the hunt for that elusive heavy chopper, the M43 and the WWII are almost identical in weight and size, really side by side the only difference between them is the M43 has a fully curved spine and the WWII has the more traditional peak to it....

I have a down limb in the backyard I've been saving for these LOL... about 8 feet long and as big around as my leg, old pecan tree limb that fell last storm, I'll get some good action shots of the 3 tomorrow along with some close ups of the kami's marks just to confirm my Kumar guess and to try and identify the other....

VERY pleased!!! oh lord they feel GREAT in the hand!

can't wait for morning!

Sounds like a Purna bull mark to me!! He's phenomenal as well. Lemme grab my Foxy Folly and take a reference pic before I head off to work..

Here we go. Look anything like this?

Can you describe the third kami mark? Or I can be patient and wait for pix...up to you :)

nope Singlegrind that's not it....

let me try....

OK back, bad lighting in the house this time of morning....this is the best I could get....hope it's helpful!

This one I think is the Kumar...it's the M43

These 2 confound my attempts to identify....first pic from the WWII

second pic from the Siru....both clearly made by the same man

Any ideas?.....you see how I kinda get a skull with horns out of it? lol....

The first one is a Kumar for sure! That M43 is going to be a beast as a chopper, that's a given.

The 2nd and 3rd, I want to say Purna, but it doesn't seem correct. The mark is unknown to me in that configuration, ask auntie, she'll know for sure.

I agree, I'm thinking Purna too but have not seen his mark like that before. He's a fine kami though, one of the best.

as promised.... the uhhh...stuff that looks like rust near the edges is actually bits of pecan tree that didn't wipe away with the rag I used....I have since cleaned them but at the time I had just got thru chopping up the limb I had been saving and was more interested in getting the pics shot while I had the light....they ALL chop GREAT! I'm very impressed!!!

Sent an email to Auntie to try and confirm the mystery makers mark...will update once I have positive confirmation on the maker of the WWII and Suri

the Kumar M43 18 inch

The Purna WWII 18 inch

The Purna Suri 20 inch .....this one was the surprise of the bunch...it actually throws better chips than my GB axes...I'm VERY pleased with this knife.

Looks like an instant collection and a really fine starter kit.

I forsee another khukri addict amongst us.

While I too am a bit perplexed by this different style mark, if you compare the Devanagari characters to mine, they are definitely the same. Especially after seeing the khuks, I'd bet money they're both Purna
