So I'm watchin "Knives Live" on TV last night. They put up a Kershaw Outcast for $39.99! I told my wife "Man I'd love to have that" and the next thing I know my wife is on the phone and has ordered it for me for Christmas. I'm really excited. Does anybody have some pictures of their Outcasts or good stories to tell about Outcast excitement? Thanks.

If you like chopping stuff, you'll love it! Here's a few pics of mine and a quick review.

While the factory edge is very nice, I've since put a big convex edge on it, and it seems to cut thru stringy stuff (brush, ivy, honeysuckle, etc.) a lot better. Didn't make a whole lot of difference in chopping or batoning.

I've since used mine at the 2 annual jar fests. Everything from chopping, splitting, brush clearing, etc. to dicing onions and slicing a large tenderloins. It's a nice piece to carry on the farm, too.

It's a different yet great knife to have at your disposal! Great pick up at $ 39!

I just got one from kershawguy (Thanks Dave! :) ). I haven't "broken it in" yet, but I suspect I'll leave the factory geometry on it. That's an awful lot of real estate to re-bevel by hand. Plus, I already have a machete for thin-bladed hacking. Of course, if I get that belt sander I want... ;)

Hmmm...I wonder what Tom could do with an Outcast... :D

rr, I didn't thin mine at all. I didn't want to reduce the mass of the knife or the weight, so I started the convex about a half inch from the edge. It didn't effect the balance at all, and took less than a half ounce off the total weight.

Yeah, if it weren't for the belt sander, I wouldn't have tried this at home. Now if ya wanna go convex, I'd call richard j instead of Tom. He's does great work. I think it would be interesting to see one from Tom with a full regrind tho!

You pegged it brother. I did a convex on mine from a half inch back, and I definitely thinned the edge, mine ill get shaving sharp now.

I also recommend Richard J for the convex. I saw an Outcast he did, and it was sweet. He removed the entire finish and put a satin finish on it.

Still debating on going to that extreme with mine. I've beat it to death, I kind of like the used and abused look on mine now...there's no doubt it's seen use.

the outcast i done for macgregor22 was thick and took it down to a nice convex. i tested it out after i was done and it was wicked. jtc, you'll like the outcast the way it is but a convex edge is the way to go . if you want to see some pictures of macs outcast i would be glad to email them to you.

Congrats on the smart buy.

I also saw this show last night and am now kicking myself for not buying.
After blazing property line yesterday and found I need a better chopper for this job.

He Who Hesitates Waits...and Waits...and Waits...and Waits... < kicks Self > :grumpy:

555, check with Dave (kershawguy). He might have a Blem for the cheap. Kershaw's Blems are appearance only, so the quality is there. If I didn't already have one, I'd be looking for a blem.

I thought you had been Outcast... :D

Nice score.

Would that read "I'm gettin an Outcastin!":D

I've never bought anything off of "knives live" but I do enjoy watching it. They have alot of Trappers and such that don't really appeal to me but occasionally they have something I like and they do have alot of good quality knives. But I like listening to people discuss knives and they seem like a nice bunch of guys. I never imagined when I said how much I liked that knife my wife would go ahead and order it for me for Christmas. I just got a JunkYard Dog II CB in November at the knife show in Mt. Vernon,IL.

It's gonna be "Chop City" around here pretty soon.

Thanks for all the replies!

Well the UPS man just came. Wow! This thing is HUGE! It really looks good. Heck the Kydex sheath is worth $40. I really lucked into a bargain. I can't wait to get to choppin.

Just hold the edge up to the light, upside down, palm up to a lamp.

If it looks like like this angle - V - on the edge, it is too thick, and needs thinned out.

J curd-It looks like a V alright.
Richard J- Do you have info on your site as far as pricing for sharpening and such?

Thanks

Email Richard. His work is WELL worth what he charges (reasonable) and your knife will come back sharper than you expected.

I just noticed that the grind is different one one side than the other. On the D2 logo side back by the handle the grind line stops about a quarter of an inch from the top of the blade. On the other side ,the KAI 1079, side it goes all the way to the top. I looked up some pictures on google and found a couple that look like the grind near the handle doesnt go all the way to the top. I don't think it could possibly make any difference in it's performance just wondered if it sounded ok to you guys. Thanks.
