i will admit, it has taken me quite some time to really give into scandi style blades, but the more i use them the more i appreciate them.. they seem to be suited and excel at just about all woods/bushcraft related tasks...

as for the BCNW-01, i am really looking forward to checking this knife out... it looks like a solid user, i love the design.. i have also read/seen so many good things about it..
i had some $$$ set aside for a while, i had debated on ordering a BRKT golok, but figured i would use one of these more often...:) so i went ahaed and put in an order with Mike @ BCNW.. he's a cool guy...

feel free to post some BCNW-01 pics to hold me over in the meantime...:D

cheers.. Mike

Well if you insist....the Bushcraft Northwest is my favorite "woods" knife.

Congratulations Mike!!! Welcome to the dark side!

I always liked the simple design of that knife, looks super comfy to use. I'll be sure to check it out once you get ahold of it...

Why is it your favorite? Does it cut better or handle better or what? I own the same fallkniven and BRKT that you have pictured and really like both. I also like your BCNW-01... but before dropping that kind of money on a knife I always like to hear why users prefer it over others. I still prefer a thin convex edge over a scandi thus far but more than likely I'm the limiting factor there. I have a Mora laminated carving knife that works really well but something a little more robust would be nice. Thanks in advance for any info.

On a side note I will say I love that orange G10 on your BRKT. I may have to get one of those.

Give in brotha, give in...:D

That's a beauty, I want one!
I was drooling over the Brian Andrews Skog Kniven for a while, they are very similar blades...

BTW, I recently got a BRK Golok in a trade that I could let you swing around...

All will succumb to the scandi allure! Resistance is futile.

But seriously, I've never been anything but happy with the scandi grind for everything I use a knife for. Just perfect.

I've used & abused my BCNW blade for a good while now and it's definitely one of my highest rated bush knives. Extremely ergonomic and hand filling, and comfortable in a wide variety of grips. Perfect overall size, too. The weight is just a bit on the heavy side, but nothing off-putting. Mike Lummio (sp?) is a real pleasure to deal with too.

Pics to tease you, hehe...

right on Spooky... thanks..i was hoping you would chime in with some info. and pics.. your high regards for this knife definately helped my decision out....:D i know how picky you are....:o

You obviously have excellent taste...:D
Holy crap Ramm! Sheath is amazing, did you make it?

I did make the sheath and highly recommend learning to build your own if you have ever passed on a knife because of the sheath.

I snagged this BCNW early at a lower price because of the kydex sheath. I made one sheath for it that's in one of the pictures and decided to do this one to wrap around the kydex.

I made the flap sheath so I could carry piggy back when I wanted. I usually keep either a Leatherman Juice or Sebenza (sorry spooky, I saw that thread) in it or carry it solo. I get the firesteel loops caught on stuff so I just stuck a firesteel and a ceramic rod on the back of the sheath.

I don't know about you guys, but with all the junk usually in my pants pockets and cargo pockets, when I unbuckle my belt my pants fall off so I made the belt loops with snaps.

I still prefer a thin convex edge over a scandi thus far

For bushcraft meaning mostly "wood craft" I like the BCNW better. The scandi edge is aggressive carving and easier for me to control without bouncing off wood or digging too deep to compensate. I like the handle shape because it feels strong and is versatile however I grip it, and I get less fatigue or hot spots after carving for a couple of hours using the oval shape. The knife is handle heavy so that also helps with control.

Over the other knives in the photo Kevin's would be next but I never liked the extended point and only made a couple of cuts with it. The F-1 and Bravo-1 are good hard use knives but the convex (hair popping sharp) just didn't seem as good as the scandi for wood. The Bravo-1 always felt more like a heavy utility or maybe "urban" survival knife to me and the handle felt good in only a couple of positions. Although, maybe by a small margin, the F-1 and Bravo-1 spine to edge blade width seemed to get in the way.

Since the BCNW could do any of general camp type of stuff that the others could do but worked better for me on wood it floated to the top.

scandi shmandi, I'd rather drink some brandy,
some of you may say, that they be handy,
but convex is still the king of eye candy ;)
