After a lot of research and the usual excellent information one can find in these forums, I have decided on getting some items online this weekend.

1) Surefire E2 HA

2) Photon III

3) Fisher Bullet pen

4) Leatherman ST 200

I have heard the L.M. Wave is an all around more practical tool, but I like the heavy duty appeal of the ST 200.

I also got a new watch a few weeks ago: a Swiss Army Officer's with Sapphire crystal and blue dial. It is a cool watch.

Is there anything I am missing?

IMO, the Photon III is too gadgety. I think that the Photon II is a much better light.

That's funny you should say that, because I was thinking with all those complex features in such a tiny package, it's leaving room for a lot of mechanical failure. I will definitely think about the Photon II now.

You need something to carry all your new stuff in---a pouch, pack, sheath, carryall, whatever!:)

Get yourself a Leatherman Micra. The excellent scissors and small screwdriver alone are worth the price!.:).

John,

I thought about that, but I wear cargo pants a lot.

Jeff,

Yes it is.

Dann,

I will probably eventually get a Micra.

The Micra goes perfectly with the ST/ST200

Sounds like a nice little group, komondor. You might look at the telescoping pen instead of the bullet. I like mine better than the bullet I used to have.

The Photon II rules! I get a lot of good-natured grief from my wife and sisters and friends about my knives and tools and gadgets. But straight down the line, everyone I've given a Photon II as a gift has put it on their key chain and used it all the time. They love 'em. (My mom-in-law even said, "now I need a knife for my purse too" ... darn, I have to shop for a knife for Christmas ;) )

Komondor,how about a KRILL light ??

Hi,

I'm supposed to get a KRILL Electroluminescent Light from my friend tomorrow with a Surefire E2 GM and CRKT Ryan Model 7.

Shall post further how's the KRILL lights performs..... supposed to be great in low level lights for night activities and have long burn time ('bout 60 hours if i'm not mistaken).

Anyway beats those darn lights stick anytime .... environmental friently, can be shut on/off, small (almost the same size as a light stick).

Kinda having a big gadgets splash myself.

Recently bought my chonographf CITIZEN Navihawk Promaster Navigator Pilot Watch and also some mil-specs Poncho (to be converted into tent .. i a sticker for light multi-purposes camping equipment) those fancy tents are for sissy !!

Oink...oink...Bob

Glockman is right about the Leatherman Micra. I have the supertool and the mini, both of which are great, but I use my micra almost every day. Probably the best $20 you will ever spend.

I agree with the Photon and Micra. I have the Photon II and Photon III. The Photon III isn't too gadgety for me but it can turn on in your pocket. I like the Photon II better. The Micra is wonderful, I use mine everyday. Another thing that I would mention is a Spyderco Ladybug. You would be surprised how much those little knives can do. (They're also good to use around people who are easily intimidated.) If you're into survival, you might want to add a flint and steel. I think Cutlery Shoppe still carries them. Finally, how about a Leatherman Juice. I have most of the models and they are great gadgets. :D

The Photon II is a great little light, but when I went to replace the batteries, all the tiny parts defeated me. It lies in pieces now, never to glow again. A couple of dabs of glue would have kept parts that don't have to come off from turning reassembly into an impossible dream. Get a CMG Task Light or an ARC Light. They're both more durable and use real batteries, not buttons, that just drop into the cylinder.

Put the Micra on a keychain. You won't lose it that way. Or put it in your wallet. It's really a piece of jewelry, it's such precision work.

The Bullet pen is great, tucks away anywhere and lasts for years. They have a more recent design which may be what CD Fleischer described by "telescoping pen" that they made for the military. It's very inexpensive and you can use it with thick gloves on.

Get the SOG Crosscut instead of the LM Micra. They are basically the same, but I've had both and I would recommend the SOG Crosscut.

One of the great things about the Photon II is that it's not so prohibitively expensive that you can't buy too. I addition, it's small, so it's easy to carry two. This way, if one runs out or breaks in the field, just switch to the other one. One could go even cheaper and get a backup Photon I, so if the II had problems from getting wet, then you know the I will be ok.

Now, if you're not in the field, and have a proper micro-screwdriver and a lit area to work on, I can't see how taking one apart would lead to not being able to get it back together. There are 9 or 10 parts to the Photon II, including batteries and screws. And to change batteries, all you need to do is unscrew the four screws, remove the bottom of the case, and replace the batteries. The LED and the switch don't even need to be moved.

Admittedly, it's easier to change batteries in an Infinity Task Light in the field, but that doesn't negate some of the other advantages of the Photon.

Let me encourage you to use penwa.com for this pen. They have been excellent in their customer service! I had a problem when I was trying to put a new refill in mine and they swapped it out NO problems! I encourage you to go to eBay first and look up Fisher space pens...find their auctions and find their link to their web-site. THAT link has a reduced price for that pen. Canot remember what the cost was, but it is WORTH it...great little pen.

DPS

PS- I would add a Sure Fire E1 to my list. That with my Sebbie, Fisher pen, Buck mini tool and Photon 2 and I can take on the world.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I changed some things based on some of the advice you've given.

I just got done ordering all the new stuff. It was tiring.

I got two Photon IIs (instead of III). I reckon I will give one away at Christmas. I also ordered the "lanyard clips" for them. I suppose these are the large rings that attach to the keyring. I also got a Fisher telescoping pen, not the Bullet pen. source: TAD

I got the Surefire E2 HA in Clamshell. I forgot to order extra batteries and a bulb. source: Arizona Gun Runners

And I got the Leatherman Super Tool 200, with the leather pouch.
source: Knife Outlet (love their prices)

The SOG CrossGrip offers better, more powerful scissors.

The CrossGrip has pliers. The CrossCut has the scissors. Both are very cool.
