I'm going on a gadget spree this weekend.

The CrossGrip has pliers. The CrossCut has the scissors. Both are very cool.

Quite right. Good catch. I actually know that. I have both tools. Why I typed "CrossGrip" when I was thinking "CrossCut" is beyond me.

Why does everyone want a Fisher Space Pen instead of a classier, more sophisticated, Mont Blanc? Why does everyone desire to carry flash lights and a bunch of other small cumbersome gadgets? Why do people want to spend money on these little gadgets and "tough" "non glare ID cover" "tactical" wallets, when you could save and spend your money on a Crescent alligator skin wallet and it will look better and last longer? Perhaps I am not of the same breed as the majority of men on this site. I just don't know.

It's cheaper and works just fine.

Gadgets are fun. Didn't you ever want to be James Bond?

That would scream, LOOK AT ME I HAVE MONEY. In my opinion, alligator is simply tacky. Nylon works just fine.

Perhaps not, but there's always hope.

Actually, I have Mont Blanc pens and Fisher pens. They're for different things. I wouldn't carry a Mont Blanc into the woods, on to a construction site or in a server room. But, I would take it to the theatre or church or...well you get the idea.

Most of the flashlights I carry weigh just a couple of ounces. (The Proton series or Surefire E1) I have used them countless times even during the day.

I carry a SAK or multitool because I still believe the Boy Scout motto.

And finally.....Different tools are for different things - always use the right tool for the right job.

Gotta agree with Cardimon on two points.

"Gadgets are fun. Didn't you ever want to be James Bond?"
"Perhaps not, but there's always hope."

:D

I can understand the viewpoints presented. On the other hand, everyone always speaks of how they simply appreciate something handmade and view it as a piece of art. This always seems to be the excuse people have when asked why they spend 500 dollars on a handmade knife as opposed to a 50 dollar knife production knife that cuts just as well. I have heard many people say this is a general appreciation, and does not apply to just knives. So why does everyone want a Tom Mayo TNT when a Spyderco Delica works "just fine"? The Mont Blanc that is a piece of art should be appreciated more than the Fisher Space Pen, but somehow the tables are turned. Price is now the determining factor even if the Mont Blanc pen is better and is more refined. The Fisher Space Pen works "just fine."

I think people have virtually forgotten about the Boy Scouts. If I take out my SAK and someone either eyes it suspiciously or says, "Man, you're prepared!" I reply, yeah, you know, the Boy Scouts. If I get a blank stare I will follow up with, "MacGyver...." They usually "click in" and get it.

Different tools are for different things - always use the right tool for the right job.

And if that's not possible, duct tape, WD-40, and baling wire will nearly always help.
