I called the guys at the motorpool and they have paint stripper! Now I just have to find some 800 grit sandpaper, grab som mustard packs from the DFAC and I'm in business!!

I'm starting with my Necker, if it turns out good, then I might do my BK2 when it comes in. Already got some wood scales in the works with Marathonman. This beauty is comin together!

From one stripper to another, it sounds like a good plan.

Oh good, an excuse to post some forced patina pics...

Sweet stripped and patina'd. I only partly forced this. Just started using it to cut apples, lemons, limes. Used it to make turkey sandwiches, mustard, mayo and if you can see the orange in there, thats dill pickles.

My Lord, that is one beautiful knife. I hope mine turns out half as good as that. Mine will have some redwood burl scales on it.

I believe the rest of the human world would call that orange "rust." j/k ;)

I do a Tiger strip on mine. I like knives.

So, turns out the motorpool didn't have any stripper... however, I make a living adapting and overcoming, and I found some 80 grit sandpaper. A little harsh, I know, but I am going to try fo find/ order some 800 grit sand paper and buff it real good. Then... the force will be strong with my BK11. Force-d patina that is!

ok, so all the black is off and a nice brushed finish with a copper brush... do i just put it in a ziploc baggy with mustard to start the patina?

Putting it on a plate or something like that would work too. Don't leave it in too long, or it will rust. Apply a thin coat of mustard, put it in vinegar, anything that contains acid will work. Just keep in mind that patina and rust are essentially the same, and that patina will become nasty orange rust if the acid stays on too long.

I suggest using vinegar for your first time, so you can see how the blade darkens. If you only have mustard right now, I think 1/2 or 1 hour won't do any damage.

sweet, yeah, no go on vinegar, and i got some mustard and ketchup packet from the dining facility today. Here goes nothing. Pics later (about 5 hours or so)

Easiest way I have found is to slice up some grapefruit, lay it on the plate, place knife on the plate, then cover with more grapefruit. Remove about an hour later, let it air dry, then wipe down with Windex to stop the reaction, oil and you are done.

sooo, an hour in the mustard and only a few marks... what am I doing wrong? Using Heinz Mild Mustard
