I'm going hiking this weekend in Northern Michigan, and I'm going to be one of "those guys". You know, the ones with ten knives strapped all over themselves, add an ammo belt, and I'm Rambo. I've been trading and buying, and now I have all of these new knives to try out, and too little time in the woods. My pack is usually around 35 lbs. (with 2 knives), but I expect 45-50 lbs. this weekend. Here's the list:

The new ones:
Swamp Rat Ratmandu
Ontario RTAK-II
Ontario TAK or Swamp Rat Scrapper 6 (can't decide, maybe I'll take both)
Leatherman Wave
Benchmade Griptilian 551 in D2

And for the usual trio:
Wetterlings medium hunters axe
Carbon Mora
Victorinox Pioneer

I think I have all of my bases covered. I should have enough knives to get me through two nights in the woods!

Holy cow just 2 nights!:p That alot of hardware, just don't run and trip.:D You might have a test that never intended on. :D Good luck and have fun!

Hehe, now that sounds like my sort of trip!

And 45-50 pounds? Don't worry about it. I used to carry around 75 pounds on average when going backpacking 'tooled-up'. And I always went tooled-up. Well, you never know when the zombies will attack, even in Scotland.

Have fun and let us know how it goes.

hahaha AWESOME!

yeah, that kinda sounds like what i do on occasion aswell

well, that plus beer or booze :D

be sure to bring us pics!! :)

Sounds about right.... I would add a Case XX trapper in CV and maybe a Buck 110....or maybe a TOPS operation badger or urban defender....or maybe a strider MFS and Emerson CQC11...or maybe.....ALL OF THEM...I feel your pain bro...:D

Hah! Sounds like my list for my weekend trip... a fishing/drinking/camping trip, two nights.
I'm bringing:
Bark River Rogue
Bark River Sperati
SAK Huntsman (beer opener ;))
Camillus stockman (whittling, of course)
Letterman Wave and BK-11 already in the man bag
BRKT Sandstorm-A and Blackwater boot already on my person.
Pretty sure there is a Buck folding fillet knife in my tackle box too.

Yea, I'm one of those guys too. Though, I usually don't strap them to me so much as lug them around everywhere I go...

i think we're all one of those guys...... that's why we're here....:o i always have at least 4 knives with me when in the woods.....:D

I'm hiking the Manistee River Trail (a 24 mile loop trail on both sides of the Manistee River). I just got the RTAK II in the mail yesterday, that is one big sweet knife! I'm not going to bring my hatchet, and plan on using the RTAK as my primary chopper.

I have no problem going on a day hike and carrying 10lbs of knives in my pack. It's the only way I can get out and play with them really.

Jeez, Michaelmcgo, it took you long enough! We've been waiting for you to join the club! :)

I was also on that trip and he forgot to tell you that he brought his newly acquired Byrd Pelican. He is a master sharpener and he made this knife one of the sharpest I have ever felt. Very impressive for such a cheap knife.

For heaven's sake, don't fall in the river with all that steel!!!! (Of course, you could walk across the bottom and climb out the other side like an armadillo....)

Stay sharp,
desmobob

Hahaha, I usually end up doing that, too! Be sure to take lots of pics.

You should see what I put into my 'man purse' when I'm just bumming around town. My girl makes fun of me incessantly.

Its a good thing you're not canoeing... 'cause you or your pack would have no hope of making it to shore.... unless you walked the bottom, I suppose... lol. Watch you're footing on those steep hills, too... after a tumble you could end up looking like a pin cushion..... bah ha ha ha! :D
Have a good one, bro.
Rick
