I'm going to buy a Spyderco

I finally decided on a Spyderco! I'm going to get the PPT, with the ti Military after that....sometime this summer.

So now, anyone who has the PPT please feel free to speak up and tell me what you think of it.:)

Btw, just pushed the button to place the order. Also went with Next Day shipping because I NEED this knife!!:thumbup::D

The military is an excellent knife and a modern day classic IMO you'll realy get a lot of use out of it.

I dropped an S90V blade in a Ti Military. It's the best of both worlds (that would be the blade world and the handle world). My Ti Milli's are the old style without the special lock face. They work just fine as do my CUDA MAXX's and MADD MAXX's. The weight of the Ti Milli is 162gm.

I also wanted to thank all who responded to my post, so, THANKS!:D

Another also. I stated in my original post that it had been a long time since I owned a Spyderco, and in another place I mentioned at least 10 years since I owned one. But somehow I forgot about the Persistence I had a couple years back. Don't know how I forgot it as it is a super knife as far as construction and fit/finish went. The blade steel didn't stay sharp all that long, but it did sharpen up good. Anyway, just wanted to correct myself, and thanks again for all the info given.

I am now sitting at my computer waiting on UPS to show up with my PPT. Will post some first impressions after it arrives.:)

So UPS showed up a couple hours ago with my new Spyderco PPT. Man, it is small! But small is a relative thing and I'm used to bigger folders. I can also say I like it, like it a lot. Of course these are first impressions that I am writing, and time will tell the entire story, as it always does.

The overall fit and finish is just excellent, I mean, I don't know how it could be any better! The blade is perfectly centered, blade grinds are even all along the edge, and it pops hair right out of the box. I really like the modified wharncliffe blade, and the top swedge adds a distinct look to the knife. The lockup is really solid with absolutely no bladeplay in any direction. Now there are some things I do to my knives when I first get them, and the PPT is no exception. I disassembled it and wiped all the oil from it, and reapplied some miltec. I intended to polish the iners where the phospher bronze washers lay, but Spyderco had already taken care of that for me! Three other things I did was; 1- I gave the locking liner some more bend in order to make it stiffer, and I acheived that goal. 2- I shortened the pocket clip to .75" in length, and applied some black 3M Stair Step tape to cover it. 3- And then I tightend the pivot to my likening and put it in my pocket!

Some other observations I'll comment upon. Out of the box the locking liner applied enough pressure to the closed blade to cause a buildup of force when opening so that blade rockets out into lockup. With the added pressure, from my "fix", it added a little more pressure, but not enough to hamper opening. The locking bar covers about 40% of the blade tang, out of the box, and after I modified the locking liner there was no change in position on lockup. It does take more pressure to move the lockbar over now, but again, that is what I wanted.

Another thing that I like is the snap the blade makes when you close it and the detent falls into place. Just bespeaks of quality and excellent manufacturing!

I also wanted to mention how well the knife fits in my hand, especially with the dropped portion at the back. It really feels natural in my hand and places the blade at an optimal position to cut.

The only things I would change, and let me make this clear, the following are just PERSONAL preferences, and do not make this knife any less. I would have liked to seen the offside liner to be the same thickness as the locking liner. The second thing, I would like to have the blade 4mm thick instead of 3mm's. But as I said this does not change how well thought out this knife is and how well built this knife is, just really flawless, and I think it will se some significant carry time!!

Great job Spyderco, and this will not be my last!:)

My first Spyderco came in the mail today. I purchased the Gayle Bradley Carbon fiber...Love the knife so far cut open a bunch of black mulch bags from Home depot and cut down some card board boxes blade is still shaving hair. Really liking CPM M-4 as a blade steel so far.

Congrats on the PPT. I think you will like it even better the longer you carry it. Good thread by the way, nice to see someone research and come up with a list of great knives. I don't think you would have been disappointed in any of them. I have all three and like them all for different reasons.
Congrats, enjoy and post pictures!

The PPT is actually designed as a hybrid of a frame-lock and a liner-lock, so the lock-bar side liner is actually thicker because its designed as a frame-lock knife with the scales added to that side for comfort.

I have not had the PPT yet, so I can't comment on that. I had a GB and it is just a beautiful knife. The fit and finish is about the best I have seen from Spyderco. The only think I didn't like about it was for hard use, I had my fingers slip close to the blade on a push cut through wood. I had 2 of them at the time and sold both the user and the NIB one. The M4 steel is second to none though. I am much more of a fan of the Military. It just fits my hand better. I think the TI Military would be the best of both worlds. If you can find an M4 one, I think it would be worth the extra money. Obviously it depends on what you want. The GB is nice enough to carry as a gentleman's blade as well, but it is very heavy for dress pants (I tried it...). For me, the GB was nice enough fit and finish wise to make a great gentleman's knife, but it was too thick and heavy for that purpose. For hard use, the ergos were just not right for me. They are both excellent knives, but it is a very personal decision and with my hand size and shape, etc. the Military just works better for me for that purpose.

Different strokes for different folks... Its all a matter of preference. The GB is my first Spyderco and from the look and feel of it it certainly wont be my last. I really do like the blade shapes of spyderco knives. I also want to get myself a benchmade in M390 Super Steel.

The GB will probably be my next Spyderco, while I will need to wait until summertime to pick up a titanium Military. I like the looks of the fluted handles, but I think I'll go for the regular ti Military, as long as it has the steel insert.
