im gonna order myself a parangatan in monday

I thought the word was "No new BK6 because it was too big to make"? Yet the Parangatang is nearly the same size as a 6? Hhmmm. Wazup????

When I saw murphs pictures I though exactly the same thing. same size, different shape... Ahem, official_kabar??? We want

That's assuming the Parangatang isn't made in Taiwan like some other KA-BAR offerings.

Maybe the rerelease of the BK6 is scheduled for the year after the Becker kukri comes out.

ka-Bars website has it listed as made in the U.S.A. I hope the 6 comes back!

knife made in usa

sheath made in china

KaBar tends to use the Taiwan facility for various good reasons but esp "it's just cost effective, esp fro prototypes/new stuff/first runs"; first though: KaBar controls the quality control there. it's KaBar's facility - not a random Chinese shoppe making things. so, they are KaBars. the quality and price point are excellent. the steel is first rate. the warranty applies.

if KaBar could find an Anerican company, that could match the price, quality, and timelines, they'd use them 100%. such a company does not exist apparently. so.

the Parangatangtang is one bad ass mother cutter

Nobody's complaining about the Taiwanese made KA-BAR cutlery, as they're all exceptional quality, especially the kukri machete. But the decision was to keep the Becker line made in the USA exclusively.

Now if the parangatang is made in the USA, then that's a bit of a game changer.

I'm probably in the minority - I was very excited to get one so I ordered one, received it and it went back the next day. Its a nice well made piece of steel, and the handles do take some getting used to, but it just didn't feel particularly "alive" in my hands.

There are dogs that're the same way. Some dogs are lively and ready for anything, and others are content to just lay there.

It just didn't speak to me on air swings, unlike kukris, genuine malaysian parangs, or my Svord Bush Machete.

Maybe the parangatang does sign language.

Some knives will sing, others will just belch, or howl in an off-key tune because they're tone deaf. Doesn't necessarily make it a bad blade though.

Well I got a notification today that my order has been shipped , so I should have my 3 new knives by this time next week. I also got a notice from ebay that my two new zippos I bought have been posted , should have them by Monday :) lol looking on Aussie ebay there is a seller asking $220 aud for a parangatang!

mine should be arriving sometime today. I'll post up some pics when it gets here.

As much as I've been loving my parangatang it still has a ways to go before it replaces my Kukri machete as the go to yardwork chopper of choice. My first Kabar and I've abused the hell out of it. It spent a good portion of its life being pounded into the ground with a hammer to cut bamboo roots and it just keeps going. I think that's the best $40 I've ever spent on Amazon--Taiwan made and all.
