I'm gonna try to carry nothing but traditional slipjoints for a couple weeks.

I've always been a pocket clip kind of guy and have very rarely carried any knife without one. Although I've always loved traditionals and I have a couple nice ones that haven't seen much pocket time since I've had them. So I'm gonna see if I can carry nothing but my slipjoints for a couple weeks.

It's very doable, just need the right traditional, if your used to a single blade locker you might wanna try a sod buster, it's usually got a strong back spring but the larger blade usually makes it easier to open, even one handed.

With strong "real man" trousers (carpenter's slacks, dickies or carharts), it's quite pleasant and practical to pocket carry a substantial traditional like a 4 to 5" toothpick, hunter, trapper or mountain man. You may appreciate another small one (3" wharnie, pen or spear) in your left pocket. See what you're stepping into... Enjoy !

I'm more partial to smaller slipjoints I currently have a case swayback jack and a GEC #68 white owl.

I think you'll find that traditionals cut better in daily tasks, like opening mail or slicing food. Plus they don't raise eyebrows in public if you have to use your knife. Good luck with the experiment!

4+ plus decades here. Tried the clips, but would rather those be on the belt.

I seem to have had my Case swayback jack pretty much kick out everything else here lately. May throw a baby butterbean in the key tray and let them do battle each morning.

Always wanted to try out a Baby Butter Bean, I carry more than one blade typically and I always carry a Traditional blade, (according to my wife I have a sickness) but sometimes location and event dictate what I carry so when it comes to slip joints I always try to carry one with 2 to 4 blades.

You'll probably realize there's not much a regular old slippie can't do for everyday pocket knife duties.

Really depends what you use your knife for. I find with my life now a slip joint is fine as I usually have both hands free. When I worked as a gardener I preferred a clip knife simply due to the 1 hand use.

I carried pocket knives for a couple of decades before an option to use a pocket clip version existed. Did all sorts of things while carrying a stockman. construction electrician, truck driver, factory work. I never felt like I didn't have a tool which would do the job I needed done.

Those two are some great ones to be stuck with! I carry a slipjoint every day, usually vertically beside my wallet in my back pocket. They are pleasing tools that appeal to both the eye and the hand. Easy to carry and inoffensive to your fellow men and women.

Hope you enjoy the experience!

I just completed a three week stretch of using only my case cv medium stockman (in red bone) and my buck 301. I love them. Of all my vast collection, including microtechs and protects, Benchmade, spyderco, Kershaw etc, the only knives I missed was my small and large sebenzas

I admire that decision. I hope you enjoy it :D I, currently, only own an Opinel 7 but I hope to get a slip-joint soon. I'm kinda on a tight budget xD.

Does Case use a different type of steel for it's blades than say Old Timer? Case blades seem to stay sharp a long time. My new Buck has 284 stamped on it what does that mean. My wife's cousin gave me the knife that he was given when he went in to the Swiss army. The blades are a lot thicker than the Swiss army knives blades I have bought here in the state.

Absolutely right. When I was up a ladder, working on a utility pole, it was a lot easier having something that opened with one hand.

I much prefer carrying a nice slip joint or a fixed blade but there are times when a modern knife is more convenient.

You may find out that pocket clips aren't necessary. You may also find out that you will carry two knives.

Well today I carried my swayback jack and I was wearing athletic shorts and it slipped right out of my pocket and feel down into my recliner. I realize that the athletic shorts and small slipjoints are a bad combination. I may just carry my traditionals in my jeans when it gets colder out or in my jacket pocket.
