I'm looking at Ruger .45 autos

Andrew, thanks for the comments. One of the "upgrades" I want to do is change the recoil spring, possibly smooth the trigger if it feels rough after shooting and possibly lower and flair the ejector port. I've heared from people that last mod helps it feed different ammo better. It's something my Gunsmith does to his 1911's.

But mostly though I'll probably put different grips on it, change the recoil spring (to be on the safe side) and have my smith check it out to see if there are any other things needing done. Not even sure if we will do the ejector. But who knows. As soon as I get it, most likely on November 10th, I'll take it shooting. :)

Wilson mags for sure, McCormick mags, I know I've heared of them and seen them around. Glad to know you like them. :) I think I saw some last night for about $16 at Gunnies where my gun is on lay away. Is that a good price or should I look at another shop?

After looking online a bit I found a picture of my Exact model of Springfield even some of the scratches are in the same place!

If anyone has a clue as to which model Springfield that is, I'd love to know. thanks,

Heber

It's been a while since I bought mags for a 1911, but that sounds like a good price. Are they 7 or 8 round mags? I prefer the 8 rounders, but many people feel that the 7 round mags are more reliable.

Most modern 1911s from reputable companies have already configured the ejection ports for reliable ejection. Unless you experience problems with reliable ejection, I wouldn't spend the money having work done on it.

Springfields have a two-piece guiderod. Keep an eye on that as they sometimes try to unscrew themselves. They can be loctited to prevent this.

One thing to check is the extracter. Sometimes people have trouble with these on 1911 pistols. If you test fire the pistol and experience extraction problems, you might have to put in a new extracter and or spring.

Have fun! 1911s are a learning experience.

The Milspec Springfield is the one I rent at the range quite a bit. Rather liked shooting it, thought if I had bought that model I would have had Novak Combat or Novak night sights installed. Since mine comes with the Novak night sights I won't need that upgrade done. Oh yeah I got mine for a few bucks less then Rangemasters wanted for their Stainless Milspec. Thats one of the reasons why I am so pleased with the price. Have you done any upgrades or mods to yours?

I bought the blued model and bought it new. I've fired other 1911s with the novak sights, the "loaded" models with ambi safeties, extended safeties, extended slide releases, FLGRs, beavertails, etc, and don't really like them.
All I did to mine was bob the hammer just a bit to prevent hammer bite, widened the notch on the standard sights just a bit. and polished the feed ramp so that it would feed Gold Dots.

Honestly, I wouldn't change anything on your until you fire it a bit. If everything works, don't try to "fix" it.
