I'm looking for a fixed blade...

My humble recommendations for fixed blades.

Busse TGLB
Busse Sarge-7
Spyderco South Fork

Sarge 7 cuz it's awesome and available for immediate shipping and has a sheath available too. You would have it FAST!!!!!

Thanks for the help yall. I have every intention of cracking open the booze in a bit and pouring through more of the pictures and some of these awesome collector's catalogs starting any moment (like as soon as I'm done typing this). I looked through a variety of the other brands people have suggested- including the other ones in the Busse family, but it just isn't in me. If I buy one of the others I'll still sit around and plot on how to get myself the best. No one ever seems to argue that Busses aren't the finest heavy use knives around- people may occasionally be turned off by the price but the quality and durability are never in doubt. I'd rather spend $500 and feel satisfied and proud of my purchase than spend $100 to try (and fail in my case) to temporarily hold of my urge to buy the best. It's money better spent (and the same philosophy that put my sebenza in my pocket without a moment of buyer's remorse). At the moment, and it is likely to change at least a handful of times before I'm ready to buy, my favorites are the TGLB for its all around utility, general awesomeness, and its current availability and the NMFBM because it may be the single most awesome knife ever- I can't think of a single situation that I'd need it for the that TGLB couldn't handle but it is just too great to not consider.

EDIT: let's add the NMSFNO to that list. I know that is another one that I'm sure is very valuable now, but very very cool.

^^^^NMFBM is perfection is a chopper IMO. I've had lots of mistresses but the nuke melt mistress is the one. The NMSFNO might be about as close to a perfect all arounder as I've used. It can do it all. That's not meant to take away from any of the other models, many of which I still own and enjoy, but those two are the best in their respective classes IMO. The BOSS series is great too... Boss street and Boss Jack are fantastic too.

Too many favorites to mention, but you'll find your own favorites. You're on the right path.

I'm starting to warm up to the SARsquartch.
I have yet to beat it but it sure feels nice.
With a thinned out edge it just may be "THE ONE"

So I've been browsing around here checking out everything and scouting my future shopping list, and sort of unrelated noticed a large amount of barbecue and scotch. I think I may have found some like minded folks.

NjHart if you like food, scotch and Knives you are in the right place.

If it has not been mentioned - Know your states laws.
Texas

I almost made that mistake.
Found a custom knife i wanted made; contacted the person and was about to place a custom order.
For some reason i decided to see what my state had written about such things.
Tennessee = 4" blade and i was about to order a 5" knife.

That, and I finally did find where they are required to measure the blade length. Its NOT the actual cutting edge, but the length of the blade starting at the scales to the tip, so a nice big ricasso (or choil) can make a legal cutting edge into an illegal knife in Texas. One has to be careful.

NOTE: This is for daily carry, not hunting, or historical recreation.

:thumbup:TGLB. Hand shaped black canvas and competition finish.

Good looking knife, nice blade shape, comfy looking handle, convexed zero edge etc... But that pesky double guard.

Why the double guard?

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! If you want/need an all-purpose 8ish bladed knife and if you want to go straight to the final answer (and skip the fun of playing around with other knives), IMHO, the NMSFNO is it. Not to say a smaller or larger blade might suit you needs better, or a Res C handle, but for a do-it-all blade, your quest can begin and end with the NMSFNO. All but a select few of my Bussekin have been swapped/exchanged/etc. for what is, for me, my go-to hard-use field knife.

OK, so I'm a little biased...

Honorable Mention: Tankbuster and Swamp Rat Rodent 6.
