I am wondering if anyone would have any recommendations on a knife that is preferably at or under four inches but is good for heavier jobs.

Becker BK2 comes immediately to mind, not sure about 4 inches, but it can't be far off. It's a robust blade. :D Welcome to the forums!

The BK2 is 5.25" (outside OP specs), but big and beefy (.25").
The BK16 and BK17 are just a little bigger than spec'd at 4 3/8" and .165" thick, but still robust knives.

Blades from USA, sheaths made in China.

Are you looking for a folder or a fixed blade?
What is your price range?

Zero Tolerance 121 is pretty small and thick yet still pointy. Also comfortable in my opinion.

If you're looking for a fixed blade, Tops Knives makes numerous really heavy duty smaller fixed blades.

More input about your specs would help. Folder or fixed blade? Four inches overall or a 4 inch blade? Price range? There are all kinds of "heavier jobs". What kind of uses do you have in mind? What's your comfort level with maintaining a knife?

Spyderco manix 2 g10 version is a strong folder. As for fixed blades i dont know much about them.

Fixed: ZT0121
Folding: ZT0200
Both are simple, tough and nearly bullet proof.

If you're looking for a small knife that's closer to 4" overall, then the Spyderco Techno, Boker Albatross, and Benchmade 755 are all solid options. On the cheaper end, there's the Spyderco Dragonfly, Kershaw Half Ton, and the Cold Steel Tuff Lite.

If you're talking about a 4" or under blade, that's not usually considered a "small" range, but there are a lot of good options:

Zero Tolerance: 0550, 0551, 0200, 0300, 0350, 0700, 0566
Spyderco: Tuff, Lionspy, Gayle Bradley
Benchmade: Adamas
Lionsteel: SR-1

Then there's the obvious Strider, Chris Reeve, Hinderer, and Grayman knives.

There are dozens and dozens more, but those are the ones I have personal experience with (except for the 0300)

I have never regretted getting my ZT 0350TS, it's sexy, yet tough! (definitely heavy)
As far as fixed blades go try an ESEE Izula, I don't own one but I've only heard good things about them, also they have a very appealing "no questions asked" warranty or whatever they call it lol not to mention they're like $70

Benchmade Adamas for a folder.Heavy, incredibly solidly built, a little under 4" blade. There might be other more expensive options but if you can find one in the $130-150 range I'm sure it's what you're looking for.

Are you looking for a heavy duty folder that's 4 inches or less when closed? What's your budget?
