Im looking to get my first gas Forge...

Hey DaQuoTah,

I bought a Forgemaster Blacksmith model from Dan Morris at Old World Anvils. Cheapest I could find. You may want to talk to him. I got the forge for about 500 bucks I think. It's pretty decent, too. You may want to check with him.

Not that I want to knock anyone making their own forge - I think thats great. I just didn't want to spend the time fussing around with it. I got too much else to do, probably like you.
 
I do not know what to do,,,,but I am printing out each posting, and also printing out each linked website,,,,,

Lots to think about....sometimes I think to myself, "I could do that"....then I see others photos of gas forges that I could just plug-in and start forgeing...and think to myself,,"Why spend the time if there is a 50/50 chance I end up making a pile of junk?"

thanks for everyone's helpfull advice, and encouragement.

I printed out everyone's posts and links, and went over the information with my wife and mom to get their input too.

In the end, I decided that I just didnt have enough confidence in my ability to construct my own forge, having never seen a real working forge in my life..

Perhaps if I had seen how a forge works then I might understand some of the websites where homemade forges are diagramed.

Im surprised at the sheer number of websites devoted to helping guys like me make a gas forge...


in the end, I decided to get the Three Burner NC Wisper Low Boy Forge that Terry Dodson told me about, (Thanks Terry)

It was for sale for $250.00 and thats way better than the $525.00 I was about to pay anyway....and I can just plug it in and forge away the moment I get it,,,,


Thanks everyone for posting and helping me work out a plan for my knife making future....

This Blade Forum is great,,,I had a problem, I didn't know what to do, ,,,so i just loged-on and told you my problem and the most knowledgeable people in the world offered me very good advice, and infact pointed me to a solution.


Now,,,,where do I get a power hammer next?
