Just grabbed a couple of the new frontier hawks and a spike hawk and a trail hawk for sheath pattern development. The nasty black paint just wiped off in paint remover, maybe because of the smoother finish under it maybe because it's not great paint ;-)) But it sure came off easily. The haft eyes are close to perfect with only a touch up with a dremel. And man, that spike sticks so deep when you throw it spike forward. I'm likin these a lot.

You will find there's plenty of metal to mod these things any way you want. Have a blast!

I really liked the job you did on the spike and the "pipe hawk", super clean work. I may shine the spike hawk up and may even try to straighten the spike at some time, when I have time. Summer is so damned busy;-(

Thank you for your kind words. My latest mods are going to be wearing a patina rather than the epoxy finish I have been using. The Pipe hawk to Poll hawk mod has got me busy removing metal revealing what I hope will be a kick ass mod. It has been a hand filed only mod. I am pleased with the octagon poll, measuring is important.
My hafts will now be finished in lindseed oil in which alkanet root was boiled. This was a recipe from a gunsmith colleage of mine. I will post more pics in my pipe hawk modding thread.
The Hawkmen contributing to these modding threads have been a source of inspiration for me. I think we all push each other to the next level in our craftsmanship and vision for the next hawk. I can't wait for each mod to be posted so I can learn more from fellow hawk enthusiasts. Can't wait to see your hawks.
