I'm making a list, and I'd appreciate it if you checked it twice.

in context of this conversation, what doese that mean
"knife you put to sleep"

thanks in advance

Ryan

I am answering this very late, my apologies. "naifi fa'amoe" (in the Samoan language) means any folding knife. It means that the knife is put to sleep by being folded into the handle. I hope this answer is still useful after such a long time. My apologies :)

Replace the Okapi with a Cold Steel Kudu or Eland. Better steel, better construction, much better unbreakable handle, and I'm told, a better balance.

I have both the Kudu and Eland. NO blade play, came razor sharp out of the box, and the lock is super strong.

Okay, so the ethnic/regional/workhorse knife list I'm compiling contains the following:

South Africa - Okapi

Do a lot of people in South Africa carry Cold Steel knives?
Okapi is the only South African knife company I can think of. I suspect many traditional people there carry home-made knives and bladed objects.

Hi Faiaoga. I was just talking to someone about your Samoan knife knowledge the other day. Good to see you posting. Thanks for answering that question. Hope all is well.

Bit of a zombie thread here, but somebody asked about Portugal. MAM is a Portuguese maker that makes very simple working knives, either pure friction folders, or with a simple liner lock.
