As you can probably guess, im new here and i was wondering if there are any other swordsman on these boards, and if so, what do you use to train with?

types of swords and styles
practice equipment (pads, and other devices used to make or assist drills)
ect.

Thanks.

Welcome to BladeForum, Swordsman. Have you looked into SwordForum.com and into NetSword.com? These are two boards that specialize in people with an interest in swords and in the use thereof. I should think that you would find more assistance there.

I have been training in Viking sword techniques which by the way is awesome so far. I havn't purchased a pair of my own yet but will do so very soon. I train in martial arts everyday, but the sword techniques I am just starting.

If you dont mind me asking, what type of techniques are you doing for the viking sword? I too am using techniques for it in conjunction with a knife or round shield.

Well, Swordsman, there is the Longship Company in the Mid-Atlantic area. We have our own Viking longship that we dock at Solomons, Maryland, where the Patuxet River runs into the Chesapeake Bay, as well as a faering boat, a small dinghy style boat from the Viking era. I am certain that you could find members who would be interested in practicing Norse sword and spear techniques with you.

www.longshipco.org.

I don't remember the names of the techniques. I also train in kenjutsu. Are you familiar with this.

What is the basis for these sword and spear techniques? Is there an authentic source for them or are they derived from different traditions?
