I'm new here

Hey Sassas :) can you tell me how that little chit feels when you get it ?

I am interested in a lighter kukri....... :o

I got the horn... It was a tough call, but for some reason I just don't like the look of a light colored handle and polished blade (particularly with the gold hardware) and I figured the wood handle would be gone by the time I decided to get one. I'm not sure exactly what bugs me about them, and the Bura Ganga Ram that was up a couple weeks ago kind of grew on me as I looked at it more and more after it was gone.

What's yours? I didn't think much of it at the time I bought it, but looking back I couldn't find any other 12" chitlangas either. There was a nice thread a while back started by Ferguson I think with pictures of the smaller knives that had one of the 9 inchers. I'll be curious to see what this looks like when it comes in. It has a kind of bent mushroom on the handle in the picture...

Sassas, I feel the same way about the handle colors. It just seems the darker look is more substantial, even though I know they are plenty strong. I know the feeling probably is not shared by others, but I don't particularly care for the Neem. It can be pretty (Sweet got a nice piece of it on the first 14" YCS Karda), but for the most part it seems to be rougher and has a smell I don't care for. Karam is much nicer, smoother and feels more solid, and hill walnut is way better. So I got a horn as well. I noticed the handle shape as well on yours, and hope the one I get, that was not diplayed, will have the same feature.

FYI, the 8 and 9" knives are pretty, but my hands are too big to use them comfortably, unless the rear of the handle is flatter. 12" and 13" knives are a nice size though...

Regards,

Norm

Kind of funny... This posted less than an hour after I got the dark neem handled Ang Khola and Trisul. I was going nuts trying to figure out what was causing that smell. It's like a combination of turpentine, motor oil and scorched frying pan.

There is a bit of a haze on the blade I was rubbing it down to remove. I thought there was some kind of native oil on the blade or something.

On the other hand, the handle is really nice, with really great fit and finish as well as a nice narrow grain to the wood with no knots or blemishes.

My brother said it would be a great gift for someone I wanted to annoy a bit. Kind of a gift that keeps on giving... The smell stays on your hands for a while.
