...I do enjoy working with leather. I had some time on my hands this afternoon so I made this neck sheath for one of my kagas katnes.

You can't see them in the picture but I glued a thin flexible magnetic sheet to each piece of leather. I also used a thinner than usual piece of leather for the welt so that friction would also help hold the blade. The combination holds the knife in place very securely, yet also allows for a very smooth draw.

I like it, but for myself I've tucked one of mine in with my my .25 Beretta 950, and one with my 22LR Beretta mod 21 ( both 22 and 25 have 4" barrels - for added velocity, ya know - the threads on the outside of the barrels are just cosmetic ). A mouse khuk paired with a mouse gun. I know, friends don't let friends carry mouseguns.

( Hmmm... maybe I could pair a 9" khuk with my .32 Beretta Puma - nah! )

PS I love stopping by the Christian Bookstores. They carry these zippered Bible covers with pretty artwork like angels, and so on. Depending on the size, you can get some very useful tools ( one of my bible covers can hold two 41 mags ) hidden inside them. Just the answer to your prayers when you're in big trouble.

Rusty,
Funny but my 21A doesn't have the threads on the outside of the barrel. Must be an aftermarket enhancement. Yeah, that's it -- spiral engraving. <VBSEG>

Brian, I really like your design -- using the magnetic sheets was a very clever idea. I'm going to try making a sheath like it for myself. Thanks for the idea.

Brian,

Pretty neat idea

. I have some of the tiny khukuri's on order in the next shipment. May be I will make a kydex one for mine.

Leather is still nicer IMHO - something about the texture, and the smell.

The magnets were a cool idea.

Thanks, Steven & Ray, but I can't take full credit for the magnet idea. Bud Nealy, RJ Martin, and I'm sure a bunch of other custom makers use magnets in their sheaths.

The magnets I used are not high quality "rare earth" type like custom makers use, but rather the Staples type -- they are intended to have a business card stuck to the front.

I wouldn't rely on the magnets alone to hold even a light blade like this in an inverted position. That's why I went for a friction fit as well. On the plus side, the magnets are easy to work with and can be cut and hole punched for stitches w/o any difficulty.
