Until I save for some more guns. REally. This is it. I don't care what you come up with. Forget the sales. Forget it. I know; it's big and shiny and will cut wood, believe me I know. 17 times I've listened to you.

I've a gentle, fine friend, old and not well, who has guns to sell me at great prices. He needs the money, and I 'need' the guns. Guns are good, just like khuks are good. Guns are better than peanut butter, and I eat that every day.
So forget the Ruger 480 I wanted, and forget the WWll 18" I needed: I will once again save for guns within this special circumstance this spring and summer.

Aw munk...you were my best competitor at playing Khuk shark... :p

Right. GOtta have priorities, eh, munk?

I slowed waay down on the gunz in the 90's. Got rid of me hi-capacity 9, my Bryco .380, and others, leaves me with the .270, Marlin .22 semi, Ruger .45, Mossberg 500 series 12ga, and the classic viet-nam era Ithaca 12ga (a beautiful and ideal shotgun design, bottom load, bottom eject--a must fer lefty shooters).

I'd certainly make it a priority if he has some nice or rare bang-stix. He'll give you friend prices instead of dealer prices, too! The Ithaca I got was from a friend of dad's who carried it in theater, then sold if off to dad (complete with leather strap and this weird adjustable windage sight). He tried years later to get it back, but its me bird gun now.

In the end, I bet most of us end up with more guns and khuks than is necesssary, but hey. Some folks are addicted to heroin, for us its HIKV.

Good luck on beating back the HIKV!

Gee, sorry to hear that Munk. Hey! Wait a minute. That means more khuks for the rest of us! ;)

I definitely understand where you're coming from but hell, I'm selling guns to buy these HI blades! Really, I see this time as perhaps the last of the golden age of khukuri acquisition. There are a thousand political variables that could dry up the supply of these overnight or in a few years, and I'm not taking any chances. And the specials I've missed! The YCS, FF, Ghopte, Falcata; they all would be in my collection if I had only had the brains to look for this place even a few years ago. Who knows what blade is the next style that has to be retired?

I figure I can always get caught up on my guns and reloading again down the road (not that I have enough time to use them now!)

Regards,

-Norm

"BIRD GUN ???" Perk

pheasant birds? quail birds? partridge bird?

Ithaca 37, I got lucky as well. But (god love Wisconsin), I bought at a Police auction. It is a riot gun, with the extended magazine.

Tell me about the birds.

The big question would be how many things do you chop on a regular basis versus how many things you shoot on a regular basis. ;)

It is sad. I'm trying to remember the Bura WWll 18" price right before the current round of Bill's health issues- it was on special for ...was it only 75 bucks??? And I watched that go by and acted too late.

I would be content to spend my allowance for most of my days with Bill. He lets me make payments and never threatens to send Gigio over for an 'adjustment"

I still own Bill as I write. What kind of human would be making plans to get in debt before he's even out of debt?
That's sociopathy, my friends. I noticed a Gun thread in a nearby gun Forum. The title was; "I got busted with my guns" (or very similar) I was expecting a terrible tale of police enthusiasm and an owner's not paying attention to paperwork. Guess what was there instead? His WIFE saw the new gun!!! He wasn't able to sneak it in. And what followed was comical- the resident experts weighing in on how best to lie, cheat and steal from their families...
All of this should allow me to stick my nose in the air- unfortunately, sometimes when Bill asks me how I want to pay, I write back things like: "better just add it to the tab- things aren't safe here"

And I haven't yet told my wife my allowance is going to be history past next New Years...

These two things- Khuks and guns-

Myself also, I have a winchester Trapper 44 mag, but I need a good old fashioned bolt action Varmint/Precision rifle that I can hit something ( paper plate size ) with, out to 300 and take whatever down DRT ( dead right there ).

7x57, 25-06, that recoil range. I might even break down and put a 1.5x5 or 2x7 variable on it.

Plus a guy is selling off some of his couple hundred guns at low book. I need extra carry guns. They make us list make, model, and caliber but not serial # on our permits. I want redundancy. I shoot someone, they hold the gun. I ger released, I want a spare in the trunk and at home. Want my license to read S&W model 36, 37, 38. Put on the old Colt style shrouds on the 36's and 37's. Waller and Son bought the rights from Colt and now make stainless and blue for Colts and Smith J frames. I like the ability to cock and take a longer more accurate shot while still having shrouds to keep the hammer from snagging.

PS: Waller Shrouds cost $50 plus having a smith drill and tap 3 holes.

Rusty's always talking about these imaginery gunfights in the desert... he has back ups for back ups..has a philosophy and working plan for each khuk and sidearm, rifle and shotgun he owns...remember that slender khuk he has with the girl's name? The one he's afraid of? The one he imagines appearing in his hand as if by magic, not knowing where he's been, covered with blood? In other words; he's nuts. Yeah. Plain and simple.
But that also makes him a friend of mine. You see, I got plans too...

And let's face it; when the chips are really down, who do you want beside you?
A loon who has made plans and is ready? A loon who will go, who will cross the River? Or an intelligent, thoughtful, modest citizen whose guns are prudently stored in lock-up, out of reach of children?

Besides which; California's coming soon to a State near you.

munk

Gee, California already invaded my state :) . I've seen bits and pieces of Rusty's arsenal, and let's just say I wouldn't want to piss Rusty off. I'll bet he knows where to hide the bodies :D

Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockleshells,
And pretty maids all in a row.

We're all fertilizer in the end. Just be sure to bring them by after dark. The neighbors already think I'm weird.

My point is that soon your deer rifle will no longer be for hunting. It will be a sniper weapon. Like how your pickup is now a SUV?

Besides, even in Nevada it's getting harder to find a good deep mine that hasn't had the entrance to the shaft blocked off. They are there but I ain't telling.

Besides, it ain't paranoia. Just ask ony NDN.

PS: there's a bunch of folks here that would do to ride the river with.

He made a fiddle from her long thigh bone
Oh, the wind and rain
He made a fiddle from her long thigh bone,
Oh, the cold, wind and rain

And the only tune that fiddle would play
was oh, the wind and rain
The only tune that fiddle would play
was oh, the cold, wind and rain

munk (from memory, best I could do)
edit- actually, I think the fiddle was made from the breast bone, and the thigh bone made the fiddle bow...

We all live on the Reservation; some of us just got here first. munk

One of the things I REALLY miss about living out west is the difficulty in finding a decent place to shoot here in NE Ohio. Sure, we have public ranges, but they have many downsides. When I could just drive out into the dessert and set up plastic jugs full of water and blaze away, THAT was a sort of paradise. Now I have the rifles and hand guns, the ammo, and the time but no really good place to shoot. I need to find an abandoned gravel pit with a sympatico owner.

There's no farms in Ohio? Usually some scrub land on every farm can be used for target practise- if it's not too close to town, that is.

Mr Munk Sir,

Are we doing okay tonight? This bouncing back and forth hasn't upset us a little has it? ........

Cause I'm really starting to wonder about ya!? :p No more khuks.....yeah, sure....I'll be holding my breath

For far away, I like my Swedish Mauser the best then the Enfield (SMLE)Closer in the Mossberg 12ga short barrel pump with 0 buck

I'd stop wondering, Fenry; it's all true!
As for me- what about Rusty?? Geezee. And my little song was merely in answer to Josh....you're not becoming munkcentered, are you?
Maybe you're right, though. I've been in pain for a month and anything I can do for distraction is worth it.

No, I"m not going into my medical status- other than to say pain that wakes you is no good.

<<<Are we doing okay tonight? This bouncing back and forth hasn't upset us a little has it? ........>>> Fenryr

I'd drop the plural, my friend, it makes you sound like the head of the local PTA. Never trust people who chronically speak in plural. (not that you have)

I wish I still had my Swedish Mauser. It was a super accurate one- the best of the 3 or 4 I'd owned.
