im off to the ER

Lucky to still have the rest of the finger attached.:thumbup:

It probably does not "need" stitches to mend - but with no stitches it will take longer and have more scar tissue. So good by to that high paying and glamorous hand modeling job ........ :)

These guys talking about superglue arent just screwin around. It really works and it works well. All you have to do is clean the area close the wound and apply the glue.
Dont let it get in the wound just on the outside.

Cuts like that need to heal semi-open,,,,,,,,,, maybe 1 or 2 stitches loosely applied........ had the misfortune of getting some nitwit in an ER who stiched my finger up like it was holding on a front car bumper . Too many stiches all tied real tight,,,,, a very prompt infection ensued,,,,,,, the procedure of tearing it back open an debreeding it really sucks. Good luck with it.... Wash it real good (painfully) bacitracin and a good fabric knuckle bandage,,,, and the most important thing,,,,, a nice single malt,,,, or in a pinch , several beers will do. Keep applying booze till the pain subsides :D

Of course you could head out to the ER ,,,, let them hook you up and only follow the last part of my suggestion,,,,,,apply BOOZE liberally, internally !!!!!

I'm no doctor and have angered a few in my time so take my opinion with that in mind. However, imo, that doesn't need stitches. It needs superglue, maybe. Definitely to be cleaned and bandaged in such a fashion that you can't bend it for a few days. Clean it, wrap it, pour yourself some bourbon.

Hah, now that is some good, strait forward advice.

Stop bending it and go get it checked out.

(I may not play a doctor on T.V. but I am one in real life.)

i just had my neighbor take a look at it. (hes a doc). told me to go get 2 stitches and i asked how tight and he said very loose. looks like he knew what he was talking about. thanks guys for helping and caring. when it happened all i said was " ooooo crap" and my wife immediatly said you and your dam knives :) and the worst part is. i just got home yesterday from alaska. anyways im gonna drink some more then head out to get it stitched before i cant anymore
thanks all

glad to hear its nothing a few brewski's cant fix  but if you cant use your hand that means i have to wait even longer for my knife lol ;)

Really delayed double post...sorry:o

Good advice! Two should do it as long as the tendon is intact (in which case you might need an extra one in that). Don't wait too long to go because the longer it is open and not cleaned out the greater you chances of getting an infection are.

Good Luck!

Super Glue will work just fine to close the scratch. Plus you will save $425.83 towards future INFI..

I had a similar cut from a FBM SE on the next knuckle up.

I just sucked it up and superglued the thing. Worked pretty good.

Dad was a Neurosurgeon. He was the most intelligent person that I have ever known. He always said that Superglue was great to close cuts.

Well, that explains it, you cut yourself due to jetlag. Tell your wife to ease up you just came home from The Freezer!

I hope you locked up your knives before you left so your wife could'nt 'dispose of them' in your abscense.

Hey, when you get to hospital ask them "How much for 2 LOOSE stitches?" If they give you a price for more than $600 tell them you could buy a new SFNOLE for that much. And if they ask you to wait in the waiting room, just haul out your FSBM and tell them "this is what bit me", that should clear the waiting room and "the doctor will see you now" GRIN!

Good lord! lol how often do injuries happen around here these days? Wasn't it just two weeks ago when someone else was sitting in the emergency room bleeding to death with a nerve damaged finger?

Maybe that's because folks who own INFI like to fondle it more than say those who own 1095 steel,LOL. OOPS! bandaid please, dang it this ones sharp Joules!

you should be OK with no stitches. Hell with that, you would be sitting 7 hours in the ER waiting....

I don't know, can't tell from the photos the depth, but given there is very little room between the outer skin and some very critical areas around a knuckle I'd say blow the time just to have it looked at to make sure regular every day activity doesn't cause more harm unintentionally.

Worst case you get the ER and find you've wasted a few hours and they laugh you out the door.

Best case, they agree it needs a bit attention to keep it safe from permanent damage.

I agree, critical nerve damage could occur in that area, there goes the bar piano career! Bring a good read with you, and use a Steri Strip on it in the meantime. When the doctor sees a Steri Strip instead of a bandaid he'll think you know something more than the average patient and agree to '2 loose stitches'. Heck get your neighbor to stitch it up at home for a beer!! No waiting! And you can keep drinking while he works!! See it's a positive situation you got yer self in tonight!
