I have been fortunate enough to handle every production knife I felt suited my needs and/or interests. Its been a fun journey along the way, and I've learned a lot. I got caught with the folder bug for the second time at the tail end of 2016. Before that, it had been 2 years since I carried anything nice. I was relying on my trusty ground up Recon 1 during that time. Having a new-born took my attention and money away, never bothered me a bit that it was dull half the time and cheap: The knife that is.

Well I'm trying to quit while I'm ahead here. I catch myself constantly looking for good deals on the sales forum, researching questions on endless minuscule things, and frequently asking myself is "this" the knife. This has been fun while it lasted, but all good things.. as they say. Its time to put my focus back on music and the ol' guitarra.

To make this official I had to start this thread. Starting today, April 27th, I'll be EDC'ing one of these two knives, both in M4. This will be about the 7th time I've had a Military so no surprises there for me. The GB just came in the mail today, I had to watch myself ask all those obsessive questions...what about this? that? here? there? what if? But its truly beauty in a beast like package. I got both of these brand spankin' new, so all the scratches will be cherished.

The only exception would be for travel, I'll carry the Recon which I wouldn't mind as much if it were to get confiscated or whatever. Nonetheless, let this journey begin. You guys are all legends in my book. Thanks for the fun and "edge"ucation. I'll post pics if anything exciting happens or patinas start to show.

Thanks again comrades, I'll stay on occasionally to answer any responses, or if I need some words of encouragement. I'll see you gangstas on the flip side. Happy hunting.

Cheers,
Dalton

P.S. if I pick up a Delica down the road, sue me. Everyone should have one of those:cool:

I've tried carrying just one or two knives exclusively, but I can't do it. I don't have a huge collection by ANY stretch, but I have a hard time choosing between the few that I have. However, that being said, I will say that my Sage 5, Para 3 and Mini Grip in D2 w/ AWT scales get the most pocket time.

Good luck, OP. I greatly admire your goal here, and it's one I still foolishly hope for for myself. If you've found the ones that can keep you happy long term it'd give the rest of us hope. You're carrying a heavier burden than you know. ;)

Good luck.
It's really not all that hard to limit oneself to choosing between 2 knives...as long as those two knives are well selected.
I carried my ZT0200(kw) almost exclusively for two years, and not due to lack of options. I forced it out of my pocket to give a few others (CRK, Hinderer, Strider, etc) a fair chance. Some I liked a lot, some not so much. (The 0200 rode in my jacket or pack, so I was rarely without it).
The 0200 ended up back in my pocket... what finally shook it out was the copper scale I put on my 0550.

The 0550- 0551 was an awesome knife. I loved the clips on the Gen 1. That's probably my biggest gripe about ZT's. The clip always steers me elsewhere. Well, that and flipper tabs.

I've always been a made in U.S.A. guy so getting used to the Taiwan stamp on the GB may take some time. I don't mean to sound ethnocentric, but it's always been that way with my knives. Never minded my glocks being made in Austria. I think with Taiwan I didn't want people thinking I'm carrying cheap Chinese stuff. I'm well aware of the difference, but it's a silly quark I've had. Over the years I've completely stopped caring what people think so I feel this is the right step. It's probably healthy that I'm attempting to overcome that. Plus the F&F is spot freakin on.

Godspeed. Many of us do not have the ability to limit ourselves to two knives for a year.

In practice, I may well limit my EDC choices to a couple knives in a year. That however does not stop me for buying new knives. BUT, as I mentioned in another thread, there comes a time when you draw the line and use what you have.

The only way this would work on the buying end for me is to stop visiting BF.

I've been turning over my collection in every attempt to use what I own but I keep replacing my non users for others than I swear I'll use.

I whole-heartedly blame BF for this madness of mine.

Awesome choice on the GB1. It's my favorite workhorse and M4 is still my favorite steel despite trying hard to find stainless alternatives. Looking forward to your update pics.

That's awesome Dalton!
Look forward to your update. I've been wanting to do this with one knife as well, my favorite but it's an auto. Cali no can do.
So for now it's been my Protech TR-5 Manual.

There are no stainless equivalents to high speed tool steels.
Good choice on M4.

Ideally I would do just 1 knife but, since I'll be using these for everything I may not have time to sharpen just one and be back at it the next day. Life can be busy as we all know. Plus for weddings and such occasions, th GB is a no brainer.

Small story, I recently attended a friends wedding, and was deliberating which knife to carry. I chose a PM2 In m4 because I found it the most friendly of what I had back then. It turned out to be the way to go. All the brides maids, my wife included, had the same dress, and on that dress were plastic support straps for their "support". Well this plastic lining was digging into their breasts going on like the fifth hour and my wife had had enough. She asked me to cut out a little slit at the top of the dress. Sure enough the plastic support slid out and relief. She was very happy. Well, naturally the other brides maids were eager for some relief as well.

This was one of the only instances I can think of where it's better to let them borrow the knife to do it themselves. One after another they passed around my pm2 with jade scales and everyone was happy. No one flinched at a "knife" or anything like that. There's always a time and a place, and on occasions like this, a suitable knife.
