I'm ready to buy a folder

I think there are many reasons why Busse does not make folders and personally I feel they are right. It would be difficult, if not impossible, for Busse to maintain their fixed blade warrantee for folders. I don't even think it would be fair to expect the Busse guarrantee for folders. ABuse a folder and it will break, at least the ones I have seen.

The Bear Cub is backed and they are teeny tiny.

Any Busse folder would be MUCH stronger than any Bear Cub...:D

For a monstrously strong folder, I'd say try the Chris Reeve Sebenza. They are tough as hell and Chris is a great guy to work with if you ever need service. I have an old D2 Aviator (Yes, it was so old it was made from D2 while Chris was still in South Africa) I got from Ebay that needed a refinish. Chris did a great job and was a real pleasure to work with.

I can't recommend a Strider, and I refuse to ever own one. I have too many genuine U.S. Military heros in my family to buy a knife from a company started by a man bereft of honor. The shame he brought on himself by lying about his military career in order to make a name for his knife company is something I won't ever forget. I won't ever condone it, either.

the ZTs are nice. or you could try and find a Rat Trap

Until Jerry makes a folder, I use these: (Also, an Umnumzaan, but I don't seem to have a picture of it at the moment)

Bravado, Why would you say that? It makes me want to call you names!!! I've been drinking and I'm trying not to blast anyone but... Strider!?!? Please send liquor and Humboldt Gold to calm me. I mean...damn. Brother...damn.

dont forget the srider smf.killer folder w/framelock.love mine!!

I pretty much consider the AR to be a frame lock... I mean the dang liners are like 1/8th inch or something crazy like that... I see it as a frame lock with scales on it... the thing I don't like about the SMF and other folders of its kin... is the one side of the handle being soild G-10 bugs me... I need metal on a folding knife handle... I know they beat it to death with a hammer and it took amazing amounts of abuse but it still bothers me that one half of the knife handle is essentially not metal. Plus I think the look of one side raw titanium and the other side colored G-10 is not very symmetrical. I don't think the SMF and it's kin have any lock strength edge that the AR does not. If it is... it's minimal. Plus from some reading I've done... although being able to push the locking bar inward on a frame lock by gripping it is a plus for failure prevention... putting that much pressure on the locking bar can expedite locking bar wear. Makes sense. With the AR which is essentially a frame lock with grips... you lose the extra insurance against failure from gripping pressure... but you gain POSSIBLE lock longevity because of the same reason. So as long as the lock is stable from day one... I'd imagine it would last quite a long time. Now the locking bar is most likely thicker on the SMF so it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. Anyway... that's some of my thoughts on why I'd prefer the AR over the SMF... not saying the SMF isn't awesome... just not my flavor. Plus I LOVE the wide beefy profile of the AR's blade.

Check the Kershaw Zero Tolerance, IMO better ergos than striders and just about as strong. The ZT200 is a relatively affordable tank. The ZT300 is Busse Worthy.

They look nice but I have the same problem with them that I do the SMF... There's no titanium on on whole side of the handle. I know it realistically doesn't matter... but I like metal. And though I've looked at the Sebenza... it's just not big and scary enough for me... I have a Bradley Mayhem which is nearly the same size as the Sebenza and it does everything the Sebenza can. Plus being a Titanium handled balisong that's gotta be like the strongest locking mechanism possible right? This particular folder want of mine is for something big beefy and scary... which is why I was hoping that sometime this year there'd be a Busse Folder. I would LOVE something with about a 4" to 4.5" blade that was .20" to .25" thick with heavy duty titanium handles. Basically a folding Badger Attack LOL. But until that dream comes true I guess an AR will have to keep me happy.

I though I was the only one thinking this way, In addition the old school handles AR are way more comfortable. The only Strider I have is the AR, I had PT, SnG and SMF but sold them.

I don't know if you saw the post but some one here actually had a knifemaker cut a Badger III behind the handle and made it a folder with Ti handles. It was awsome. Let's see if someone here can search it.

yeah... I mean for a regular sized folder my Mayhem is AWESOME... here are a few pics of it next to a sebbie to show that they really are nearly the same size... same blade steel... the Mayhem is 5/32 thick... not sure about the sebbie. And with titanium balisong construction... it's nearly fail proof... I can't ask for anything more out of a EDC knife... I just want an AR or something like it for overkill value.

I did see that back before I became a member and was just lurking. Not sure if you could find anyone to do the work though... if memory serves me the guy that did it... did it that one time and didn't seem interested in doing it again... I wonder if Busse would honor the warranty on the rest of the blade... I can't imagine any reason why they would... but then again... we are dealing with the finest company known to man... I would like to get a Badger cut down and have a Balisong made out of it. To me Balisongs have always seemed the most failproof and idestructable lock design for a two-piece knife... can really call them folder... but you get my point. I know there are some guys out there that will do custom Bali stuff. But I'm not sure I could stomach cutting down a Badger Attack. It might kill me. Something about cutting the handle off of a fixed blade seems wrong... and doing it to a Busse seems like a good way to get sent to Hell. LOL.

What? all i eluded to was that strider backs their knives up against unintentional damage like busse does! to each their own if they want to buy one or not.

It was created by Matt Cucchiara, who, in fact, did kill a Badger to make it. :D:thumbup:
I don't believe he's interested in doing any more, but Reese Weiland has also made folders out of Busse fixed blades, and apparently is still willing to.

SooooooooWEET, yes?? :thumbup::thumbup:

Chris Reeve Sebenza are my favorite uber costly folder. But if you are going to EDC a knife and use it for every thing and not stress about lossing it, or god forbid getting it taken for some reason, buy a SPYDERCO! They are the king of folders with many great designs that will fit pretty much what ever taste you have. The Military and Manix I would put up against a strider any day. The may not hold up as long if you are smashing them with a hammer but for ever day use and self defense, for the price, they can't be beat.
