I'm really looking to expand my collection

I just want to have a well rounded edc collection of knives that are the "must haves". The knives that people rave about for a good reason. So far I have:

-Ontario rat 1
-Buck 110
-Kershaw leek
-kershaw blur s30v
-Spyderco Delica 4
-Spyderco Manix 2 g10 ffg
-Spyderco Paramilitary 2

I'm not sure if I'll be interested in a benchmade. I don't like the plastic handles in the Griptilian. I've owned a Spyderco tenacious, and a kershaw skyline and I wasn't a big fan

Benchmade 710? 940?

Was going to offer these two above as part of the four suggestions I was going to make.

The other being a ZT 452, or 560 series.

Or what about an edc sized fixed blade?

First and foremost I would not dismiss the mini Griptilian. Even the regular plastic handled one is pretty nice because it has full sized liners so it definitely feels much more solid than the full size. That said I have both the Griptilian and Mini Griptilian in the G10 with CPM20 blade steel and those are just awesome knives. The G10, especially on the full sized Griptilian, really transform the knife and boost it to a whole new level. I still have, and plan on keeping, 2 regular mini Griptilians even though I now have the G10 models. So I would try to get to a local store that carries them and gcheck one out before dismissing them.

Now that that's out of the way I would say that you have a pretty good jump start on a nice collection. Just to give you a few more ideas the Sage series knives by Spyderco are awesome. Benchmade 698 Foray is a new offering this year and has exceptional build quality and is a great gentlemans folder. Also the Stryker 2 knives by Benchmade are great. Then you could always get into the Chris Reeve Sebenza and go that route. It seems to always end up there with this hobby anyway so you may as well skip all the stuff in between that you will list on the exchange to get funds to buy one when you figure out how awesome a Sebenza is, and just get one now and get it over with. Besides you can't just have one. You need a small Sebenza, a large Sebenza, then you can get into the exclusives like the carbon fiber or all the special inlays.

Good luck and hang onto your wallet. It starts getting expensive now!

Love this forum and all the amazing suggestion and knowledge here..

Coming from a Random Leek; my edc for the pass 3 years..

I'm waiting for on a delivery of a PM2 black on black.. And a really sexy ZT 0450CF.

I have the Sebenza on the Top of my wishlist..

Looking (learning) into fixed blades..

Good collection so far...
You need an Opinel 8, a Victorinox at least one of Tinker/Soldier and a Vic Classic... maybe a small Spyderco, a Dragonfly or a Ladybug...

Not a big fan of Kershaw or Benchmade myself. You can skip the Tenacious if you have a Paramilitary 2 ... they are similar in many ways... my Para2 took out the Tenacious out of rotation...

I've handled the grip and mini grip and I just didn't like the feeling of the handles. And I really don't think 154cm is worth $80+

The Mimi-Grip with scales from Wilkins in Berlin. He has a nice website and is an American exGI who actually has a knife shop in the magic city.

Some from the usual suspects not on your list to consider:

Slysz Bowie
Sage1
Sage2
Chaparral
Dragonfly2
Native5 LW
Manix 2 LW
Gayle Bradley2

ZT0452cf
ZT0562cf
ZT0801

484
940
555

The "must have" sorely missing from your list IMO is the Dragonfly.

Obviously if it doesn't feel right then it's not going to work for you. However 154cm is an excellent steel and Benchmade heat treats their 154cm very good. I could see saying that 154cm on a $200+ Emerson is not worth it, but these knives are only $80 and for what you get in that price range you aren't going to see any steel that will outperform benchmades 154cm. You said you were somewhat new and looking to expand, but don't buy into the steel hype so much. As long as you're up into the 154cm, VG10, and above you aren't going to notice much of a difference in steels aside from them being harder to sharpen. Plus, if a knife with 154cm isn't worth $80 then is a knife with S30V not worth $150, or even $350? In the end it's your money, but the Benchmade Griptilian is probably one of the best selling knives in history so there are millions of people who would disagree that the 154cm isn't worth $80. Just food for thought.
