Im really wanting a.........

I want a good-looking, fixed blade knife that i can beat the hell out of without worrying about breakage or bending.
Preferably under $100.00

Then get a Kabar Becker or an Ontario Ranger RD. People love the Beckers...I don't own one, but I trust those people. The Rangers...those I can attest to...they are bombproof.

The USMCs are great and "historical," and I love stacked leather handles, but they are not, in my opinion, ideally suited for bashing the bejeebus outta stuff with (that design problem at the tang/blade join), or for bushcrafty stuff (the saber grind doesn't make for a great slicer).

And stop worrying about rust. Sheesh! Stainless is a recent development. People did just fine without it. And they continue to. Ask the folks in the tropics using carbon steel machetes.

Are you aware of the Kabar Big Brother in two versions? I've got the kraton handled one and I like it a lot more than my USMC knife.

yep, I know about them

though the one that I am talking about is a little bit different....I believe it would be put in the sword category.

all I am talking about is changing the blade length from the original 7 inches to 18 inches and the handle from 5 inches (i am approximating) to like 6.5 inches

The Kabar USMC knife has been available in stainless steel. I wish the guard as a little thicker. I like to carry them in a gray fiberglass sheath.

I've been beating/abusing my KA-BAR USMC for over 20 years and it hasn't broken. Not a great deal of batoning but it has dug a few fighting positions in rocky soil and been used as a hatchet multiple times. Not much problem with rust either. A light coat of LSA seems to be more than adequate
