On July 21st I sent (via USPS Priority Mail) my ATC/Brend Fighting Hatchet to a fellow Forumite as trade for a pair of NIB 9.5W Bates USMC Combat Boots. I received the boots on 7/23, only to find out that these boots don't fit me, as the "W" in the size 9.5W is a WOMAN'S size "Wide"...(Through my research, I found that men's Bates boots are labeled as a 9.5EW.). He SAID (he THOUGHT) that these were men's boots, but they aren't.

So, I sent these boots back to the guy in Georgia on 7/24 (via USPS Priority Mail), to "undo" the trade and they arrived in Georgia early this morning (7/26).

But, he STILL hasn't received the ATC/Brend Hatchet package (that I sent to him on 7/21) to send back to me....So, so far, I'm out the $9 it cost me to ship the Hatchet to him, AND another $12.60 to send the boots BACK to him ($21.60), as well as the ATC/Brend Hatchet that he SHOULD have received by now and sent back to me by now...

With my damn BAD luck, the Hatchet is "lost in transit" or has been stolden somewhere between here and there...He has his boots back, I'm out $21.60 for shipping charges, and I don't have my Hatchet back (along with 2 sheaths), so I'm screwed.:(.

that sucks....
did you send the hatchet insured? I guess that might save you from being "totally" screwed.

In hindsight, what would you have done to prevent this?

Hopefully you sent it insured. If something like this happens to me, I try to think of how there are a lot of people out there that have it a lot worse off, and far worse things happen every day. Sometimes it helps to put things into perspective. I know it stings. Just this morning there was a family that lost their house to fire near where I live. I can't begin to imagine what they are going through.

As long as your are still in contact with the other fella and THAT is not a problem, just give the USPS a little longer and it will probably be found.

you sent it usps-priority, but did you also have delivery confirmation?

Sometimes, believe it or not, the usps messes up. I recently had a package lost for a MONTH due to a bad zip code, and had a package come back to me that was mailed because the TO and FROM addresses were on the same (business shipping) label.

The usps is getting very automated, and sometimes it just takes time for a human to actually read what is supposed to be happening to be able to fix the problem. IN my experience, the Humans at the usps can sometimes undo mixups caused by the computers/scanners.

I sure hope it works out for you Dann -

. . .NIB 9.5W Bates USMC Combat Boots [...] as the "W" in the size 9.5W is a WOMAN'S size "Wide". . .

While probably an honest mistake. . .a woman's 9.5 boot/shoe is pretty small. . . Personally. . .kinda hard to mistake the difference between a man's and a woman's boot/shoe.

Give it a couple of days. . .sometimes mail delivery in "Joe-Ja" runs kinda weird (at least where I'm at).

Hope that it all works out for you !

Well, a little good news with the cluster-fukk...My Hatchet was delivered to Georgia yesterday at 12:53 to the building that the guy lives in (to a secure office where packages are delivered/held). The problem is that by the time he received the message that the package was there, the office was closed. He told me last night (via email) that my hatchet would be on its' way home to me "first thing in the AM". Well see. (If it is sent home to me this morning, and if it arrives here on Thursday, maybe I can pretend that it's a birthday present...LOL...).

GigOne...Yes, it was an "honest mistake", but is IS a WOMAN'S size "wide". I called a shoe store here in Aberdeen (Harbor Shoes), and he told me that Bates boots are marked "W" for a woman's size wide, and with a "EW" (extra wide) for a men's size wide. These boots are marked "9.5W". I wear a size 9 wide, so I assumed that the boots (that I was told by the guy I traded with that they were MEN'S boots, but fit his size 9.5W foot alittle snugly) would fit me fine...But they were WAY too narrow...

Oh well...So I'm out $21.60 for shipping...:(.

Shiit, shiit, shiit. Well, it seems that my hatchet WAS sent back to me this morning, but the guy just had it sent "return to sender", so I assume that it is being sent via regular Parcel Post or First Class Mail, and not via the Priority Mail (with Delivery Confirmation) that it was originally sent (and the way I sent his boots back to him at a cost to me of $12.60).

So, now rather than looking at getting my ATC Hatchet back in a couple of days, it'll more-than-likely be a WEEK!

I wouldn't be so pissed if this mess was MY mistake, but it was HIS mistake!!..

Shiit, shiit, shiit...:(.

Shiit, shiit, shiit....

Come on. $21.60 doesn't merit 3 shi'ites, does it? One maybe...

As long as you get your ax back it's not the end of the world. You've spent this kind of money returning stuff before just because you didn't like it, right? We all have.

I think the three shiits are an expletive directed at the fact that the other fella refused the shipment instead of accepting it and then shipping it back Priority, thereby causing a further delay in Dann getting his hatchet back.

As poor and as broke that I am, it sure does...To me, $21.60 is alot of money..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the upside of all this, it looks like my Hatchet is on it's way back to me the same way that I sent it...Via USPS Priority Mail.
I researched "Return To Sender" at the USPS web-site, and the item is returned by the same method that it was originally sent by, so at-least that makes me feel alittle better.:).

BTW...I thank-you all for your support in this matter. I guess I need to learn not to take the small problems so seriously.:).

Not related to the unfortunate event described here but I have a question.... Why would someone buy boots over the internet? IMO the risk you buy something that does not fit is very high... And if you shop over the net I think you have to count with some extra expense in case you need to return the goods... This is just my opinion, maybe the profit is worth the risk... but I would not even buy shirt or jeans over the net.

David

David, I've had a lot of success buying shoes over the internet, but I only buy brands I'm familiar with and sizes I'm sure will fit. My feet are very wide and shoe stores don't always have EEEE. I've never had a problem mail-ordering.

Also, I can buy when I see a bargain. If I wander from store to store looking for that good a price, I'll rarely find it.

It's really not much different from buying knives from reliable internet dealers.

EEEE............you sure you aren't the abomidable snowman!!! Hey Esav, does width translate to the old saying about big feet?!?! :D :D :D

Art, you know it's worse than that. Only one of them is EEEE, the other's prosthetic, so it can be any width they make it.

I thought the old saying was something about you can tell the size of a man's toes by the size of his nose!

Or did I get it wrong again ... ? :D

As an update...I received my ATC/Brend Fighting Hatchet package back this morning (so it was sort of like a birthday present :D). Although I'm still out my $21.60 for shipping charges, at least I'm not totally screwed now, since I got my hatchet back.:).

Well at least it turned out so-so, but it was a good try, the guy was actually willing to trade his mothers army boots, that's pretty cool, always heard that expression, now I've witnessed it in action ;)
