i can't get the danged thumb stud off of my Kershaw Vapor, and it's a plain-old Philips.

abe m.
Large Vice-Grips and a ballpeen hammer will do the trick.:D.

Loctite on such a fine thread can destroy a Torx bit, even a Wiha.

My trick is as follows.

Heat is the only thing that will destroy Loctite and the best way to get heat to the area ( and nowhere else) is use a soldering iron.

Let it touch the screw for 10 to 15 seconds then quickly but gently apply pressure on the torx.

Repeat till you get it hot enough to easily remove.

sears hardware sells craftsman torx drivers in every size [almost] and work well for me. and theyre lifetime guaranteed.

Benchmade is equivalent to cadillac?????

Not just any Cadillac, but the Cimmaron.

The Cadillac Cimmaron was really a Chevy Celebrity, but GM pasted a few Cadillac badges onto the doors and $10,000 onto the sticker. It carried the Cadillac name, but was not a Cadillac by far.

The T-5 sized bit is hard to find, especially in a 1/4" driver size. It's a tiny bit, and will twist and strip. I've had no issues with the Blue Box bits (using a suitable 1/4" driver), and do use them quite a bit.

On the thumbstud, at least on my 710, it's a roll pin, NOT a torx grub screw holding it on the blade.

The Sears tools are great. I had the same problem with the smaller bits in the blue box. The studs are removable, I wound up using 2 drivers, one on each side, seemed to go easier.

Oo Oo Oo!!! I know something Gollnick doesn't?!?!?!?!?

The Cimmaron was a Cavalier, not a Clebrity. ;)

Just buy some Bondhus Torx, they're awesome and I've never bent, broke, or stripped one out. You can get a small set for $15.

I have two of the Benchmade Blue Boxes. So far no problems, but I'm not crazy about the way you have to get the bits out of the box. It's a pain in the ass.

The bits are purposefully softer so that they don't mar the screws, and strip the screw heads. I can't see any reason to remove the thumb stud, unless it's already loose, and you should remove it to apply more loc tite.

This is all my opinion, and you can do whatever you want to your knives.

Deacon Paul told me to go get the Husky torx set at Home Depot. Got two (one of upstairs and the other for the basement). Unlike my Craftsman drivers, the handle didn't break and unlike the blue box, the drivers don't strip when removing Torx screws set in blue or red loctite.

The blue box is made in Taiwan, but it's quality is not representative of Taiwanese manufacturing capabilities.

I had the same problem with the crappy blue box, then I went to Sears and purchased the driver and a buncho bits in even the small sizes.Never had a problem with the bits after that.
