you know what guys???..im really sad. i ordered some german knicker knives (known as knicker messers) from austria. thay had stag handles and werent exactly cheap. i asked when i ordered them if thye would look them over and make sure thay werent defective in any way. i was told the knives were good qaulity so it wouldnt be a problem. well 23.14 dollars of shipping later i received them and all three were rusted!!!..not only that the nickel silver pommels on all three wre nicked and dented, and one sheath was coming apart!!!...hmmmmm...i know that hirschkrone makes qaulity knives , but some how these fell through the cracks!!!!...ive e-mailed the people i bought them from, so far not an answer, i'll give them some time. my understanding so far is that if i want them replaced or refunded i have to eat the cost of shipping again!!!!...and at 23.14 dollars im no soooooo happy about that. I guess what bothers me the most was i asked them to look then over before shipping them!!!...after all austria is a very lonnng way!!!!...do you guys no anyone in the states i can get knicker knives from (they are sheath knives worn in the pocket of german lederhosen)???..i know matthews in georgia sells them, i know knifecenter has a deerfoot handled one, but i need abetter source, im at a dead end!!!!....please help????

well guys i heard back from them i was told that the person i first talked with felt they were good quality. hmmmmmm i rememberasking him to look them over for defects. i consider nicks, dents, rust, pitting, ect. defects!!!...what about you?....ive seen these brand of knives , i also had bought some while i was living in wiesbaden, Germany. NEVER! had i seen any like these!!!...after some polishing i got the rust off, still some pitting though (i used a dremel with jewelers rouge, buffing wheel, and water). the pommels though are so badly nicked and dented if i try grinding them out there will be nothing left of them!...theyre about the size of a nickel, and as thin as a penny. well thay offered me 10 eur dollars back on my card. and for those of you who dont know 10 eur amounts to about 7.50 us currency!@!!...mmmm..that doesnt sound like compensation to me!!!....well i asked if they could at least send me another sheath to replace the one thats coming apart., they said they would. all i can say is that this has been a very expensive lesson to me for buying things from over seas where there are not any good consumer protection laws!!!....(i shouldve learned that from the lesson of living in Germany, i knew of some who had problems, but i never had while i was there, germnany, and austria are preety much the same in alot of respects, you cant mention hitler what he did to the jewish people ww2 ect. its against the law, and you can be fined or jailed for it for speaking about it in public, anyway excuse me guys im just a little burned right now, i appologize). i guess ive learned an expensive lesson!!!. all i can say is buyer beware!!!!. i wont mention their name here out of respect for them. i can at least do that , even though they lied to me.

SORRY - jh !

my english is not the best, just a few lessions 25Y ago, but when i read your post right, You are VERY VERY WRONG !!!!!

The german law does not forbid talking about what Hitler, and ALL other Nazis did -
(what terrible things the Nazis did 1938 to 1945 is teached in every shool in Germany !!!) -

The law actually sets a penalty if anyone DENIES in the public the facts about the KZ s and the murdering of millions of jews and others!

May be i misunderstood you, then please take my apologize,

but if not this must be corrected !

I heard it was illegal to display a swastika. Is that true?

Hi Comrade Chang -
yes it is so !
In my opinion this is silly because the swastika is bout 2000Y older than any nazi, but you must understand that is was a very strong and much used symbol with the nazis, so government decided it to be illegal - you even cannot show a WW2 dagger with a swastika at a gunshow.

Back to the knives:
I find the NICKER a very useful knive - sharp, pointed, and here in Bayern you can carry it everywhere (exept airport, jail or court) without rised eyebrows.
Sorry for jh that he got some really bad stuff. They are made in very different steels and from factory to custom at any price, starting with ca 100DM, up to ???

Comrade Chang, how do they feel about Japanese memorabilia in Nanking or Manila or Singapore?

Those of us with families in eastern Europe don't need swastikas around to remind us of relatives in unknown graves.

Germans before WW II had dreams of prosperity and parliamentary democracy; all that went down the tubes. After the war, Germany was a wreck.

Germans today can believe whatever they like and can even get together with friends and celebrate the "good old days". But the bad guys are no longer allowed to inflict their good old days on the rest of the population, or insult the victims of bigotry and violence with calls for the resurrection of that violence.

You want a swastika, you can have a swastika, but you have to keep it to yourself, like feelthy pikchoors.

I can't believe I posted this ... I should know enough to ignore this kind of remark. Comrade Chang, I apologize. You aren't the one who said anything so terrible, and I really didn't mean to make it sound like I was criticizing you.

Hi Esav -
i dont like to get political, because i think my englisch is so bad i could not clearly explain what i think ( babylon helps ) but i have to say this,
i agree with you every word, but i think the realy dangerous men are not the some idiots that shave there heads, drink beer and sing SS-songs. That are just stupid idiots! The law will take care of them sooner or later.

Dangerous are the, otherwise intelligent men, that have good jobs, dont drink in public, (mostly) dont kick her wives, but tell ther children how evil and bad and ...........
every stranger is ! ""And then ITS NOT WHITE IHHHHHH MAYBE NOT HUMAN"" And this shi*!
For me its most important to teach the children about ignorance and learn them tolerance !
Let the idiot go to the street with his swastika, as long as the rest of the world (including germany) is enlightened enough to laugh over him and call him an SILLY IDIOT !!!

Hi all -
please can we go back to knives?
The nicker is a long-time favorit of me, but im new to computers, could some of you experts show a picture of a nicker here?
Very interesting knive, built to "nick", what means to kill smaller to medium sized wounded animal by once stabbing to the heard or neck.
Usually 3 to 4 inch very pointed blade and stag handles.
Can be found in Bayern and Austria in every "Lederhose" !
In this peaceful times long after "Wildschütz Jenuwein" its mostly used for "Brotzeit".

I lived in wiesbaden while in the Air Force, i was told by people there that it was illegal to speak of the nazis there, i also talked to some young people who said they were taught nothing about what those pigs did to the jews, i also know that the nazis murdered ANYONE who stood in their way, my fathers cousin for one who was a priest was murdered and burned for speaking in church against the atrocities that the nazis did. A friend of mine had the polizei (police called on him for mentioning hitler in a music store we were in (in wiesbaden), im not calling anyone a liar here, but i lived there for just short of a year, and i dont remember it being okay to speak of these things in public. I have nothing against Germans i have family myself in bohmenkirckh (spelled something like that), alittle village between stuttgart and munich (most of my family is from the bayern area). all i can say is that there are still are alot of misguided young people there (in Germany) who are into neo-nazism. and quite frankly you would think they have more sense then that. I guess murdering over amillion people hasnt sunk into everyones mind there, that this is wrong, sick disgusting. I get sick everytime i think of anyone ever trying to block out the reality of what happened. It seems that there seems to be a diiference of opimion here, im not calling anyone a liar,m after all i just live there short of a year, what would i know???

There's a saying that "the best revenge is living well". In that case, Germany has mostly got its revenge over the nazis.

Every country has its marginalized and disaffected people. They tend to identify with whatever is despised by the majority. The 'skinheads' use nazi symbols because it gets a reaction; otherwise, they feel no one would notice them.

I was stationed in Darmstadt for over a year. It was a nice, normal little town, sort of like being back home, after a while. And back home, most people don't like to obsess about the pain of slavery, or the perils of immigrant life even today.

There's a lot of dirt under a lot of carpets all over the world. Each of us picks a particular carpet to complain about ...

So! Let's talk about knives!

That knicker knife sounds like a Scottish sgian dhu, for the size and shape, a small utility knife.

I guess a lot of us go back and forth on knife styles. I've got a few good big knives. At one point, I couldn't get enough folders, but now I'm looking at small fixed blades. Anything within a three or four inch blade is a candidate for a neck sheath.

I don't know how well a pocket sheath knife would go over here, since most of us pretend to be too slim and elegant to have anything bulging in our pants.

Its alot like the one you posted, but more traditional. if you go to the knife center of the internet they have a deerfoot handled one, also if you look at the knifeshop.com they have a few also. the most ive seen though are on linder-solingen.de they are the major manufacterer of knicker knives, saide from herbertz, hubertus, and hirschkrone. they are worn in the pocket (right side) of the lederhosen. they are very similiar to the scottish ones you talked about. by the way atlanta cut. has a scottish one made in sheffield with a stag handle for about 50 or 60 dollars i believe. oh and by the way i have many friends and relatives in Germany, i appoligize for being rude.

esav, i use to eat at the kfc in darmstadt while i was stationed at rheinmain ab !!!

jh, I was there in 1966-67. I don't think we had a KFC there at the time, not that I'd have bothered. Us Air Force guys made a habit of going to German places, except for the few who flew to Amsterdam every chance they could get.

It was a beautiful city, but very new, also, for such a historic site. They took a lot of damage in WW II.

I was in the air force at the time, and we liked to eat German food, but it was nice to have something that reminded us of home once and a while!....sad though the kfc chicken was really fatty compared to the chicken at home, but you couldnt have everything!!!
