I'm so weak....

As early as Monday, with the reception of Stomper's 2 knives, I thought I was done with buying knives for the year. Everything just seemed all happy and satisfied. Then I fell into a little extra money, was just going through some book marks and on a lark clicked on the Scrapyard website.

Damn - those guys dropped the CDN shipping surcharge to $10 + regular shipping and are offering the Son of Dogfather - a 7.5" thick prybar with a cool bowie - clip point and that awesome respirene C handle. At $119 for two color flavors - a bargain!

Now normally, I'd just be able to let this float by me, but then I got to thinking how awesome those handles are after having handled a Busse basic earlier this year. Then all these posts started popping up about the Becker 9" pry-bar and pretty soon the thoughts of thin knife/good cutter just flew right out of my head. Couple that with the 'gotta buy it now' sense of urgency always afforded to the Busse line (particularly the scrapyards that sell out in days and keep an empty shelf most of the year). Well - I'm just weak. Rational kicks in - 'you know you need a knife that you can just abuse the hell out of'...Do I really want to abuse a knife? - No......well kind of...ya ya ya.....

Went against all my personal little rules, followed the impulse - typed in the order - Gone. I guess I'm going to be part of the thickened prybar club. This must be payback - after all Pitdog now has a love for mora's and thin scandi's, I guess some of us will have to revisit the prybar....

Of course you guys are to blame.....I shoulda bought a GB-axe - damn that thing is still on my list - how the heck did this happen?

The SOD's do look a great knife though buddy, I'm expecting them to become a prybar classic in the same vain as the CampTramp !!!
You will also find that SR77 is an awesome steel !!!

Ps. I will get your knife shipped back to you within the next week or so if that's ok with you !!!

Good thing the first chopper's name wasn't dog mother - cause this knife's acrynom would be SOB :D

I've been looking at the SODs myself.

I already have my GB though...;)

Nice scores!

Yeah, im a sucker for the big'en's :D

Anything with a ~7" blade and a 2-4/16" blade im happy!:D

Ok, now I've done it too. One Tan SOD on the way...

This is after ordering a Busse NMSFNO Sage/Black the other day...

I am weak.

And SOD is better?

What do you think, pitdog? Sod is a fairly common English word. :D short for sodomist?

Doc

looks like it will make a good chopper. be sure to get a GB at some point though. they changed my life :D

I'm looking at a second - the Small Forest Axe.

My first GB is the Hunter's Axe. I plan to pass it on to my son when he gets big enough.

Everybody should try out a first rate big chopper at least once. I like a chopper like the SOD matched to a thin little slicer. Rather than trying to have 1 knife do everything a big and small set can specialize much better.

For the weight a bowie like the SOD or DFLE is a very capable chopper compared to a hatchet or small axe and useful for other things as well. I use mine like a draw knife a fair bit for example.

A great combo is the SOD and the Barkie PSK.

Ha ha, kind of like that dumb joke about the guy who spent too much time on lawncare - stingy with grass - the old sod'o'miser....

Anyway - yes the GB is still on the list. I have a fisker axe that gets a lot of use, but I'd really like to upgrade it at some point.

Edit - good comments Unsub - thanks. Yes, I have a few PSK's that can be pared with the SOD. It will be interesting to compare the RC-6 and SOD on multiple usage fronts.
