For a long time I've been thinking of making a blade but the lack of tools space and time has been a problem. We have just completed an interstate move and I have some time before my new job starts so I have finally been able to do a bunch of DIY projects around the house and now I want to make a good knife... or a knife. I do not have all of the proper tools or fancy materials so this is my experiment. On a recent hike to a local waterfall u have found a 6 mm thick piece of rusted steel Inn the water. Once I touched the steel, I knew it was the sign 😜 to start on the project I have long been thinking about. The steel is probably a apart of the hydroelectric power plant that is right on the waterfall. It is rusted and pitted - definitely has character. Since the find, i have used vinegar and wire brush to clean it up. I have found the desired pattern and I am about to start cutting it out... with a hack saw from Harbor Freight tools. The "high quality" blades dull when cutting wood, so I know this is going to be an adventure!

Have fun on your adventure! I agree with the count, I've used old table saw blades, which I know to be high carbon steel, and still get critiqued for that...so a known steel is important. Look at all the videos on line and take your time! I look forward to seeing what you can make from it.

You could use that steel for a bolster maybe if it is thick enough. Doubt it would be a good steel for a knife as others have noted.
