Thanks for answering Sal.Hi JohnDF,
We're probably a ways off for a Delica 5. Most Delica customers aren't into the finger choils. A Compression lock on a Delica might not be well received because the model has developed a large audience of the past 30 years, and the back-lock and muscle memory carry's a lot of history.

Thanks for answering Sal.
I guess a Sprint with upgraded steel will be the closest I can come for a while then.
I agree about the back lock, it is part of why I'm so fond of the model. That and the shape and thinness.![]()
Waiting on a cruwear blade delica to be delivered ! Can’t wait
I love my Delicas and have a hard time imagining what a D5 might look like without thinking of other models Spyderco already offers.
If I had to pick something to change, maybe I'd get rid of that slight spine drop close to the tip and go full splinter-picker. Very minor, and not really worth a new model.
With regard to the Endura 4, somebody said that the "spine drop" was there to make the tip stronger.
I'm just repeating what I read on the Internet. That's the correct thing to do, isn't it?![]()
I don't doubt that it does strengthen the tip to some degree. Splinter-pickers can be very fragile, but I find them useful on smaller knives.
It was only an issue for me because I thought a straight spine looked prettier. I'm an idiot, of course.
If you're interested, check out the Stretch 2 straight spine (sized between the Delica and Endura with a 3.4" blade.)
