I'm sure you've heard of Larry Niven.

That's OK. I usually like all the character development and story building stuff at the beginning of a book. It makes the action parts better when you know the characters and like them and care what happens to them. Ordered the book on eBay this afternoon. Looking forward to it now. :)

Another good title of Niven's (with Jerry Pournelle) "military" sci-fi is Footfall.

A good ol' alien invasion story, with an interesting take on the alien race. (think herd mentality...)

I rather liked his stories about Neutron stars and black holes. Also his Ring World novels and collaborations like The Mote in God's Eye (aliens like that, we don't need to contact ^-^)

Been having the PC blues have we? :)
My ISP fell into a neutron star, the )&*%#$! :{"(_+?> so I decided to go all the way and replace my cranky Windows 98 with XP while I was at it.

Where is Beowulf Schaeffer now that i need him?

While I was buying the Niven collection "Scatterbrain", I noticed he's also got a new Ringworld novel out, something like "Ringworld's Children".

I read Ringworld's Children a couple of months ago. It's a worthy entry into the series, with a yet-again-rejuvenated Louis Wu continuing his adventures.
