Well, I don't hunt (the 4 legged kind at least) so I'm not interested in something to skin with,,,, I think. I don't want a knive that is so big and heavy that it's not easy to hold. I work with a hog so I certainly don't want a rat.......

Your words are music to my ears especailly the last line!!:) Yeah and I vote for pictures!!:D

Welcome to BCKF. We're a friendly bunch 'o hogs 'till we get near the Trough. ;) I just handled an HD for about a week, before I sent it off to have pants put on it, and I'm going to work it into the rotation for EDC. A blade sized right.

blchbld- Nice to meet you and I hope the weather is nice for you way down there. It's a little frigid up here in VA, ice on the ground. Someone mentioned the Satin Jack TAC earlier and I'm going to jump on that wagon. It does seem like a nice "Jack of all trades" knife to have. The Busse Company Store should be getting the HOG version of it in in the not to distant future if you would like the Satin finish and thicker blade. I think if you look at your decision the way papathud mentioned it could really help. Also, and I am being sincere, If you could post a picture of yourself we could give you and your situation more guided recommendations. Help us, help you.

:)

I'm gonna leave this one alone. ;) Another round for the house.

COOL!

You can buy up at Big Dawgs! LOL

If this a 'duty' thing, I would think the AD, HD, MS or BAIII would be good. Skeleton Key even better if you really want to be discrete, but something in that size range.

Perhaps I can bring some show and tell.

BTW, welcome to the forums, it's a sick bunch, but nice.

Rob

It's even worse when he doesn't show....:D

Welcome to the Busse Forum, blchbld. Would you like to buy a vowel?

The first generation Satin Jack has a narrower grip than the latest version, probably a better fit for women's hands. I think it has around a 6 or 7" blade but I'm too lazy to go upstairs to check right now. The blade is narrow (from cutting edge to spine), so it's not a great chopper, but excellent for anything else.

For a smaller everyday carry, I'd go with an Active Duty, Meaner Street, or if you can find one, an original Mean Street. Somewhere in between these knives and the Satin Jack, in terms of size, is the Tanker A, the Groove Master and the BA3 (Badger Attack 3).

For a REALLY small, lightweight, easy to conceal knife, the Assault Shaker or the Skeleton Key will work.

Pics of all these knives (I think) can be found here:

And so I did. Edited for poor, very poor, taste.

blchbld,

Welcome to BladeForums and the Busse forum in particular! Definitely check out the badmojo site. Unlabeled dimensions below in parentheses are the steel thicknesses.

For smaller Busses (4" blade length), I like the old style Lean Mean Street (3/16") / Mean Street (1/4") or the newer Leaner Meaner Street (.150") / Meaner Street (.220").

For small-medium size (4.5-5" blade length), I like the Badger Attack 3 (3/16") / Anorexic BA3 (.150"), or the yet to be released BA Tac. Another great choice is the Basic 5 (1/4"), but they are rarely seen for sale these days.

For medium size Busses (6" blade length), I like the old style Satin Jack (both 3/16" & 1/4"), or the current SJ Tac (3/16", or .220" for the LE version).

The thinner ones are lighter and will slice better, but I still really like the 1/4" thick MS. The 3/16" thick models are strong, and even the .150" models would be fine for all but the most extreme use (very heavy prying).

The handle on the old style SJ and BA3 is the same size, and I assume this is true for the SJ Tac and BA Tac. As X-Head mentioned, the handle is smaller on the older SJ than the current SJ Tac (and therefore the same applies to the BA3 and BA Tac). If you decide you want an older model, they appear for sale from time to time in the "For Sale: Production Knives (Individual)" forum, but sometimes they sell quickly, so check there often and be ready to buy if you see what you want (prices will vary, so it helps to know what is a fair price for the model(s) you might be looking for). Best wishes in your search, and let us know what you buy!
