I'm thinking about a new kit gun.

That's cool. My dad has the old style single six, you know the dangerous kind he bought from Sears and it's a nice shooting pistol. I have to admit though that I've never warmed up to 22 mag. If I was going to go with a .22 pistol I would go with either the 317 or a MkIII with a Tactical Solutions barrel.

For carrying all day while hunting, I use a bearcat with a shoulder holster. Very light.

It hits a bit to the left, so I just hold a bit to the right. Practice makes perfect. I've shot enough sparrows out of low-hanging branches to know. But for snakes or anything that would bite you, the range is close enough to hold dead-on.

I like the single-action for reloading a round or two in the cold with stiff fingers.

There is no comparison between Rugers and other single actions. Ruger coil springs never break. Half of my others have had broken leaf springs. One gun now has two broken springs in it (hammer and trigger-return).

I have the old style Vaquero, it shoots low and to the right

If we're sure the problem isn't the loose nut behind the trigger........:D.......then it sounds like some judicious filing of the front sight along with a slight barrel turn and you'll be right in the 10 ring.

Not hard to do at all, no reason to send it off.

You don't need any special tools to tweak the barrel?

If we're sure the problem isn't the loose nut behind the trigger........

Well, it could always be that but then that means the Uberti Cattle man shoots high and to the left 'cauce I can nail the target with it :)
