I'm thinking about selling off most of my collection

Down to 12 folders and I'll be moving one out to make room for my Demko custom. I hope he gets it done soon, been waiting since the first week of July. 5 fixed blades (8 if you count my 3 Izula EDC blades).

Very nice one's for sale now - somebody buy it! :D

I don't count my 2 machetes and my katana since the machetes are yard tools and the katana is only for show and cutting stuff in half that aggravates me. A lame cordless phone and it's base station were the latest victims.

I'm considering liquidating hall a dozen upper tier production folders that don't see much use. But, mostly because I want to buy one of Microtech's Steyr AUG clones...

i constantly thin out the herd,im at the point now that i have 99.9% of what i like, but at any given time ill sell something off.i got rid of most of my fixed blades that i never used,& low end folders, too.now im extremely picky on anything i buy in the future to avoid anything id wind up selling off anyway.i like the esse rc5 alot, but i know ill never use it, & it will just sit,get pulled in & out of the sheath a few times & put away.i see so many people on the exchange selling knives that have done the same thing.

I am selling of some otherwise nice knives that I either don't like or just don't use. I will take the proceeds and buy another knife or three!!!

Sometimes you just get some safe queens that you can divest of without any pain.

Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean that's it's wrong.
Your opinion is just that, an opinion.

If you bothered to read his post, he does mention that it was his "personal opinion". I agree with him, I also don't understand people who buy such expensive stuff only to lock it away in a case, only taking it out once in a while to fondle and admire. The behavior kind of reminds me of Gollum from Lord Of The Rings.

Do it! Do it!

Keep your top 5 folders and top 5 fixed blades.

I sold or gave away most of my knives last year. I kept the best ones and now I really use and appreciate them.

bearcut,That is so much easier said,than done,for me anyway.:o

I've been going through each and every knife, separating them in "never sell" & "possibly sell" categories. The problem is even the ones I don't use much if at all,I still have a hard time parting with them.I must have a hoarder gene in me,or something.:foot:
So far I have maybe five that I can comfortably part with.OTOH,I probably won't get even 75% of what I bought them for,so I might as well keepem' all.I don't know, maybe I'll sell a few.

This thread is going nowhere.I'm such an indecisive twit. You guys think I should lock it,or leave it open?

I do appreciate all your perspectives.

Well, John... I think I'd lock it. Like you said, lots of wishy-washy decisions/suggestions/opinions around here.

No! No! Leave it open! There may be a real good reply soon! Wait!!

Heck, I don't know what to tell you to do... I can't decide. I may go contemplate my navel... probably need a mirror... gads, is that lint?

John

er, Stainz (?)

PS In all seriousness, anything rare - hard to replace - should probably stay... maybe...

Looks like a decent collection. I think getting a Strider would re spark your knife interest!

How many Fehrman knives do you own bearcut?:D

. . . I think I'm finally getting 'burnt out' on this whole knife collecting thing . . .

Anyone else in this boat?

Yup. Big time. Through buying & trading here, I've been able to try out several very nice pieces, but after a while, I finally just didn't get as excited about what I have any more.

I've traded off a few, sold a few for a fund-raiser we do every year, and it was actually a nice feeling to move a few out and get a few new ones in. I'm going to put a few more up soon, once I get everything recorded down.

I do have a box of heirlooms, gifts, and 'special' ones (U.S. Schrade, Camillus, etc.), which I'll never get rid of. But the rest are fair game for selling & trading.

I think it's a good sign:thumbup:

You find a half dozen or so knives that really do it for you and this shows a stage of contentment and appreciation of what you're using and enjoying.

Sell of the surplus, a loss yes, but some cash and maybe it will get another collector to your level, not bad.

i've still got the mania:grumpy: but I feel it lessening:D

I've got about 25-26 knives total, and I'm still looking too see how I can thin a couple out. There are a couple knives I own, I just don't foresee myself using, and are better of being sold to people who would use them.

One's probably going to get gifted though to a friend who is starting to show a bit of interest in blades.

Most of my knives don't get used. They sit in a case or roll, all the time.

These are the only ones that make it into the rotation(aside from the occasional slip-joint or SAK that's usually always there anyway).

Sebenza (large classic w/blackwood inlays & TK regrind)

Hinderer XM-18 (3.5" flipper w/3 scales)

Umnumzaan(customized by bigmark408)

BM635 mini-skirmish(blade altered by TK & handle slabs sanded by myself)

Kershaw RAM (w/G&G grip-clip & rescaled by Phillip Dobson)

Darrel Ralph Trigger Maze

Spyderco Sage II

Spyderco Stretch II (ZDP/CF)

Benchmade Gold Class M4/CF Griptilian

^These will NEVER be sold^(except for maybe the RAM & the Stretch)

Everything else(about 50 more) is just paperweights. They almost NEVER get used.

I have a Yuna being made,& I'm on the list for the new HEST folder, but that's about it.I'd like to get a G&G custom RAM,but don't think that'll ever happen, since they're pushing $1K.Even if I did save up enough for it,I could never carry & use a thousand dollar knife.
I'd like to get another custom DDR,but Darrel's current wait time is a little over a year.I honestly don't know where I'll be or what I'll be doing a year from now,so I'll pass on that.
Maybe in the future I'll get a small damascus Sebenza or Mnandi(or similar 'gent' knife),but that's about the extent of my folder interests for the near & far future.
The fixed blade situation is even worse.Unless I'm camping or hunting(extremely rare lately, the past few years, been so busy with work),I won't ever EDC a fixed blade, with the only exception being an IZULA.I've used some of my FB's in the kitchen, which was pretty cool.
I'd like to get a few Busses & other FB's from a few makers here, but I think I'm finally getting 'burnt out' on this whole knife collecting thing.
I'll probably be done within a year or so.:(

Anyone else in this boat?

Just give them all to me. I'm sure that will solve all of your problems...and probably most of mine!
