i'm thinnking about getting a bowie

Good advice posted above. Becker BK2 and Bk11 are on my short list too. Is there a reason for wanting a bowie style knife? Is it because its a big ass kicking looking knife? if so...Ever think about a kukri. It is big and heavy and will split wood or anything else alive in half ( almost). A different sort of cool knife and possibly more practical depending on what you are planning on using it on. They are handy as a second knife at a campsite and often come with a small utility knife as well. Good luck and stay safe.

kabar big brother is great at only 75 bucks, full size kabar is only like 45-50 bucks.

Hey guys, Im new here, but not new to blades. I'd also say Becker BK9, I've blasted through some stout trees with this blade, also, you have to love the span of that long 1095 cro-van blade, only down side, is the grivory handles are slippery in my paws, and I usually have gloves on when I baton. It could also be put in a combat roll no doubt!!
Also a CS Laredo Bowie in SK5 would do nicely. Cant wait for the Natchez Bowie in SK5, woohoo! But Ontario and Beckers really win on price point.

really i just want a knife for outdoor/camping use. i love the outdoors and go camping quite often so i need a reliable, sharp knife, but wont blow up my wallet (im still in college)

So... it's just a size/weight thing you're going for right? Not looking for a "bowie" per say, just a knife large enough to handle camp chores? I ask because I do not consider the BK a bowie. I realize it is advertised as one, but the lack of a gaurd and the presence of a thumb ramp DQ's it in my book. Not that it's not a totally rump kickin work horse of a chopper, I'm sure it is, but bowie? Nah, not as far as I'm concerned.

The Highlander is a beautiful knife and it was used by Mickey Knox to TCB, but it's a hanger not a banger. This is why I was able to fight off the urge to buy one.

Take a hard look at the Recon Scout. If you absolutely have to stay in budget, u could get the black coated version. If you could find a way to swing it, though, I'd get the San Mai III version. That knife is a worker, but is also a really stylish piece. It would be like getting a Highlander.... that u could actually use :-)

What do u guys think about the ka bar bull dozier or the cold steel recon scout? (as compared to the bk9. The bk9 is a knife I'm considering since it's getting a lot of talk

Consider the BK9 some more - you know you want it. :D
