I'm wondering about scalpels.

You may want to check out the Havalon Piranta. The blades are scalpel like and replaceable, but they can also be resharpened.

I do not have one myself, but have seen people speak highly of them.

2nd that. I have this and it is awesome. The blades are also sterile.

My god.

I post, get a couple responses, then check up a couple days later and it's overflowing...
I guess this is a good forum for things like this. ('Duh)

A few of the blades you guys mentioned look really interesting, I'll have to look into them...

The TOPS one looks really nice, I'd pair it with the Amsler Hurricane 2 in terms of use and style,

Though the Boker survival knife looks scary. That isn't bad, I like scary, but for me to say something looks scary... I'm the type that doesn't understand why people get scared when they see a 7" combat blade strapped to my thigh.

The Havalon looks infinitely practical. It isn't exactly what I was looking for, but it looks like that's the kind of knife that I wouldn't mind beating all the way to hell and the trip back because I can just get a new blade. A bit like box cutters except it's a practical blade shape.

As for the Kiridashi knives, it looks like there are a lot of different types, so I can't really say whether I like them or not.

You guys have been really helpful, thanks. I look forward to more suggestions...

When you say 7" it better be ov'al. That's like one of my neighbors who walks around with his .45 open carried on his hip, who always has his hand on the grip. No s**t people are going to give you looks. It's why I don't carry my KaBar on me at all times. That, plus it's not practical. (Going off that it's open carried, not many people strab down a knife under slacks... that I know of.)

Back to OT: Tops knifes look awesome in general. I've heard nothing but complaints about them though, that, plus they're over priced for what they are... I'll give credit, that scalpel and their TB Tracker are both wicked knives.

If I had to tell you to get one based on these it'd be:
Havalon - For the money (Knife + 20 replacement blades for less than a tops)
Tops - Style & profile - It will be expensive.
Kiridashi style knives - One of the most versatile fixed blades I've ever witnessed. You can pick up a pocket size kiridashi to accompany your Havalon or TOPS, I'd recommend it.

If you just want a knife that looks like a scalpel Sanrenmu makes these.

I know there is no love for Sanrenmu sometimes, but these are copies of nothing but a scalpel. Three different sizes, this is the A148. They are inexpensive and are 8cr13mov. The grind is obtuse and they need reprofiling which is easy with the edge being fairly straight.

I'm a Lord Of The Rings nerd and did Elvish script on that one...

Only to have folks tell me it looks Arabic.

Nope, 7" blade. SOG Seal Team Elite.

I've also got a push-knife on each forearm (Not visible) and a boot knife, along with an Mcusta Katana and a Gerber fast-draw mini. That's my EDC, so that's at all times pretty much. I'm looking into a 12" HI to put on my messenger bag's sling.

And don't get on me about practicality, I think we've already displayed that simple utilitarianism is not my MO.

But yeah, people kind of recognize that I never don't have a knife on me. And I swear people just freeze when I drop a knife out of my sleeve, I've learned just to go for something clipped on my pocket.
