Images of Jimmy Chin knives

Mr Newton,

Get off your horse. No one has said anything bad about the knives' finish. As to variety, no one has said that they are clones, but it's certainly not a coincidence if several people here, starting with me, have mentionned that they were surprised at the lack of variety. The fact is that those 3 middle knives are very, very similar. I'm sure we can all agree to disagree on how much variety we like to see without going into personal attack mode.

You're an awesome maker, but you're displaying the social skills of ... well, I can't quite say it. I don't know if there's an "history" between you and Ed, but it sure feels like there's more here than meets the eye. Take it offline!

Steven and Joss,
No offense was intended guys. Just facts to clarify a posted concern Ed had. Ed and I are friends and there has never been any kind of friction amongst us. If I offended you please realize it certainly was not meant that way. Steven, Keith volunteered a few days ago to do the posting.

I agree with you Danbo. I don't particularly care for the handle shapes either. Only one of the handles has the curves that catches my eyes.
Ron

No offense taken, it just seemed pretty harsh, the way that you responded to Ed. I am a harsh person myself, as you might know.;)

I am sure that we all understand what it feels like to mentor someone, and wish the best for them, and have them take some comments that we feel are a bit harsh, and get a little defensive.

Although I am of the opinion that (from the photos) Mr. Chin's knives will pass for JS, the ultimate test will be how well they sell at the Blade Show. Good luck, and

Best Regards,

1. You REALLY need to see what the Brazilians are doing, before you say that.

2. If your kitchen cutlery has double guards and spacers, I want to know who is making it for you, because I want some too. Especially if it is take down pieces.

3. Welcome to school, prepare to learn.

Well, then, Stephen, send him some photos offline. You fancy that look.

Stephen

Effluent?

What are you implying?

Although I am new to this forum, I would assume that it is acceptable to express an opinion - especially as it relates to likes or dislikes.

I just wish there was a Buy It Now price on the Take down Bowie. It's so simple, and unique. It's beautiful.
Would have loved to have seen the finial/butt end.
Wondering also about the steel,YK30,does anyone know how it compares to
corrosion (lack of) resistance of 01?
Sometimes I feel like a say too much in posts, this is one of those times.:o
But I figure you guys will scald me when it's time.

Doug:)

STeven would be the last one to dispute this right to you. :)

I suspect that what you said regarding the "good set of cutlery" was meant to say that they look like they all belong to a set of bowie knives, like good cutlery sets all have that same look to them. I suspect STeven thought that you meant they all look like kitchen knives. The Brazilian smiths are doing traditional large blade knives without a guard that look somewhat like kitchen knives. STeven really likes them. ;)

Not much to misinterpret there, Joss. I have never seen matched sets of bowies for kitchen cutlery. Have you?

Unless the camera is distorting the shape of the blades, none of them, including those identified as being Bowies, even have the proper shape of a Bowie knife (in my personal opinion).

They do look like a good set of kitchen knives however. They probably are not dish washer safe though but neither are our Henckels.

ooops, sorry, that slipped out..

Do tell me what a proper bowie knife looks like. Clearly, I have no clue. I'm all ears.

Doug:)

I have acid skin, Doug, and can literally burn fingerprints into steel.

I have 01 on the back spacer of an EDC slipjoint, and it hasn't rusted, so to speak of, but it is patinated to a very dark gray, evenly.

That said, if Mr. Chin's knives have that fine, hand rubbed finish that we all love so dearly, keeping them free of rust spotting can be a challenge, especially in humid environments.

1. Well, your opinion is wrong. Flat out wrong.

2. You just got corrected by a well known knife-writer/collector, a BOWIE collector with exceedingly fine taste, and one crusty surfer dude who makes one of the finest EDC/tactical styled folders in the business, and is known to put out a fine fighter or two when the mood strikes him. Way to make an impact!

3. TRY not to dangle your obvious extreme ignorance in front of us, and MAYBE you will learn something. Otherwise, you'll get everybody all riled up, and the insults will pile on, and you will be banned, or wind up on the PT list, or both. and you don't want either, it's no fun.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I like the look of several of the knives. Im hoping to see them in person at the Blade Show. Several look like Bowies to me, but what do I know.
