Hello BF,

My favourite opening is a flipper by far. This however is not a thread about the superiority of the flipper. I was just thinking, my favourite EDC is a domino. I've owned a PM2 & Manix 2 both had amazing ergonomics, amazing jimping... however, I sold because of a purely spydiehole opening. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the spydiehole in certain situations, but I like the flipper in more. The domino to me is perfect edc because if needed you can get the blade out fast, but for other tasks you can use the spydie hole and open slowly. Anyways... spyderco I think you should make this a thing. Who else thinks that this would amazing?

To me the Manix 2 , PM2 open very easily and a flipper tab would disrupt the outline in a grotesque way. I might could see where a flipper on the PM2 might not be too bad if you really like flippers, but the manix is already pretty wide in the pocket, so I bet that tab would get in the way.

If you really want a spydie with a flipper checkout the Mantra. I've been on the fence about this one, but it looks like a slick design.

I wish more flippers would use a design like the Alexander Dietz modded Kwaikens. It leaves no tab sticking out.

If you like the Manix for the ball lock, I'm pretty sure it would be incompatible with flipping action.

Spyderco did recently release the Sliverax as a compression lock flipper, and it's underwhelming - partially because Spyderco isn't known for great flippers in the first place, and partly because the flipper tab interferes with the compression lock tab.

I'm guessing a PM2 flipper wouldn't be significantly better without a major redesign, which may kill the ergos you like.

I can't say I'm against flippers I have some and enjoy them ... but I still have many more non flippers that open very smoothly and as quickly as any flipper ... and prefer the control I can open as fast or slow and quietly as I want.

And I cannot imagine a flipper on my Pm2 or Manix anymore then I could imagine or want a flipper on my Sebenza. They all open very easily one handed and close just as easy. I guess some knives a flipper kind of fits ... others it seems out of place ... maybe it's just from what I've become used to.

I have a Mantra and I like it, but flippers are one of my least favorite opening devices and thumbholes designed by Sal Glesser are my favorite, by far. I love the PM2 and find it opens very easily as designed. A flipper would not benefit it, other than to put a gratuitous flipper on a knife that does not need it. If you like flippers, there are tons of great options out there. I would prefer spyderco continue focusing on other designs.

Nice design ^^

I hate flipper tabs that stick out.

I have zero interest in a Manix2 flipper.

Yes. This design is a mod that turns the standard non flipper kwaiken into a flipper by removing a tiny bit of the scale to expose the corner of the tang. I wish more knives used this design in their factory models.

See how the modded flipper doesn't add any flipper tab sticking out the back?

I may have to get a dremel and try this mod out myself, doesn't look too hard.

No offence, but the mantra's ergo's are completely different from the Manix or PM2. It has very little grip, and I would have no use for it. I much rather stick with my domino.
There is supposed to be a frame lock Manix flipper in the works.
That would be interesting.
If they added a flipper they would be able to shrink the hole and it might actually carry smaller
The spyderco domino has a smaller spydie hole that makes it not actually that bad for carrying.

Just no... that ruins the whole point of a flipper. That is terrible. Couldn't operate with gloves or quickly and provides no safety.

Well, the domino I know has an amazing flipper. If they get the compression lock with the flipper squared it would be amazing. I saw the design, but haven't watched any reviews.

Alright, well suggestion for next time... I don't need your comment as it didn't add anything to this thread.

Spydiehole allows for slow opening and flipper is for fast opening. I understand that is your need, but people use their knives for different things.

A flipper would benefit the knife in my opinion, why comment on this thread if you're so clearly just against flippers - a biased opinion. I can imagine a PM2 with a flipper working very well.

I strongly dislike this flipper design, really takes away from most of important features a flipper adds.

Well if you don't want people opions or suggestions unless they agree with you then I would suggest you not post anymore ... you don't get to decide that if you don't agree with others thoughts that they shouldn't post ... as that adds nothing to the forums ...

I haven't tried the modified kwaiken, but the WE Slipstream has a similar up-raised flipper tab and it's freaking awesome. I just tried it with winter gloves and it opens just fine.

I would of loved an opinion or suggestion. You just gave a blanket statement not backed up by reason or logic. Thus, not an opinion or a suggestion.

Nothing good coming from this thread, people seem to of missed the point and are off-topic. Thread closed.
