Imitation Benchmade knives?

You will be fine. Lots of stuff to learn and have fun with, and good people here to welcome you. Think of it more like a stop sign warning of the danger ahead with counterfeits and clones, not the people. Sure none of us like to really come to a complete stop, we would rather just semi slow down and go through, but look at the results if we do not stop, accidents happen. Other cars come flying through the intersection or ignore their stop signs altogether, and you wind up hurt, just because we did not take a moment to stop, look and listen. Sometimes we also get too much in a hurry.

Welcome to BF.com, Paul.

Please stay around. Not everyone around here carries pitchforks and torches but many people dig them out when copies and counterfeit knives are discussed.

Consider yourself lucky. Nobody attacked your moral standards for buying a clone. I’ve seen that happen in the past.

As I stated originally, it was just a curiosity thing. Not being familiar with all this stuff I just wanted to see what it is. I definitely have no plans to
buy fakes or imitations in the future. Since I'm a new member to the forum I was wondering what the forum members had to say and if they had experience, now I know, thanks.
First off, welcome to Bladeforums. We all hope you stick around and get that gold membership. There’s a ton of knowledge to be had here on the forum if you’re open to learning. Secondly anyone could accidentally buy a clone / fake because the fakers are getting really good at stealing and copying these days. It’s knowingly or knowing most likely the knife you’re buying is a clone / fake that’s wrong. When you do you’re supporting these crooks whether it’s intentional or not. Fakes hurt everyone involved. They hurt the buyer in that he’s not getting the real, high quality, knife most times unknowingly. They hurt the company being cloned in the lost sales and stolen money from their intellectual property. (Lost money for patent and design rights) For example, a few years ago Benchmade came out with the Bugout knife. It was very popular and just about everyone who bought one loved it. High quality knives with very few issues for the money. Now days I’m reading on several forums where buyers are having multiple issues with their Bugouts. I willing to bet that most of those buyers have got ahold of a fake and don’t realize it. Evil bay is eat up with fake Bugouts and they’re really hard to spot from the sellers photos which is most likely intentional. So now these fake Bugout owners are thinking that Benchmade makes a crappy built knife that don’t hold an edge well. Then they go around telling their friends to stay away from Benchmade because of this. Then those friends tell their friends and on and on. Fakes / clones are bad no matter how you slice it.

I unknowingly bought a clone at a normal price on eBay. I have not bought anything from eBay since. I’ll only buy from dealers now. Lesson learned.

Same here. Bought a Spyderco Military once from there that was a fake before I knew there were fake Militarys being sold. It was supposedly new being sold at a used price since the guy “needed the money.” As soon as I got it in my hand I knew it was a fake since I owned several Military models at that time to compare it with. I immediately filed a dispute, return it, and got a full refund.
