I found a found imitation kabar for like ten bucks online and immediately upon buying it I set out to see if it could withstand anything near the amount of work that my real ones can. I tried to chop a branch in half and the thing went, SMASH! and shattered like a piece of glass. So I laughed for about fifteen minutes until I got bored and went inside. I filmed the results of my test and will be placing it on youtube eventually.

"All goods worth price charged."

Hey GW1732
For curiosity sake was there a brand name on the
imitation kabar. inquiring minds needs to know:D

Bad heat treat?

Bad knife. I mean shattered when I say shattered, like glass, that's what made it so funny. I had fully expected it to break but not like that, I expected a couple of chips or, at worse, the blade to snap, but that was ridiculous. It just went kaboom and there were steel shards exerywhere.

Let me explain,I used to work at Metal Treaters in ST.Paul ,MN. We did butt loads of custom knives, Leatherman multi tools,Coonan hand guns, Reloading dies, and tons of boring (as in yawn) stuff. It was the standing joke. Sorry,I could not help myself. Note:every knife that went through there was checked for RC. Most other parts it was 1 in 5. 10 bucks,ya paid too much.

I got one as a present some three years ago , it is the epitome of junk. The steel is so soft that you can flex the blade , I keep it in the backyard just to abuse it when I'm bored of gardening.

It's fun to abuse it isn't it? Wait till it really breaks, you'll get a laugh out of it.

"Real" Kabars are junk also. Observe:

The tired old troll accusation again. :jerkit:
Actual experience.

Bad heat treat is what happened
on this "heavy" bowie. It broke while being sharpened. Kabar seems to have had some issues lately.

your statement that "real Kabars are junk also" is exactly the type of blanket accusation trolls are famous for, that said, congradulations on not trolling and apologies for implying so.

Very nice, but that's not a "real Kabar". That's a foreign made Kabar Heavy Bowie. I was refering to the knife, Kabar; as in the Marine Corps fighting knife. And I highly doubt that happed while sharpening unless you were trying to sharpen it on a bench grinder in which case you're at fault, because I have two of those Heavy Bowies and I've put them through some pretty heavy use and have had no problems as of yet.

And what is a troll as it is used here? I've never heard that before.

Kabar is just the company name. The name for the pattern is a USMC Mark II. Case did and still does produce them, as did other manufacturers. Kaber just happens to be the name most famous for them. :)
