Impact mark on lockbar of Bradley Alias

i think one of my benchmades had a similar setup(635?). i thought it was to keep the bar from traveling to the non lock side?

I wish I had taken apart the 3 Bradley Alias's I've had. I just don't recall what they lock face looked like. However, seeing how curved the Alias's lock bar is, I wonder if it is supposed to "notched" to some degree to give it more "face" contact with the blade. It might not have originally been as "fully" notched as yours, but that might be wear-in.

Thank you very much Poco47. If it's not too much hassle, could you post a pic of yours. I am now very intrigued by this feature, I believe it's the reason the locks are so sticky on Alias'. The whole lock is designed differently than normal frame locks, there are fillets and rounds where you don't normally see them, and now this feature that appears to prevent the lock from moving all the way over. If anyone knows more about this feature, please let me know...

My 635 and 630 do not have that recessed part on the lock bar. You should just call Benchmade and ask them what they think.

i'm not sure which knife i had in the past was like that. that was a just a guess. i do know that at some point i have seen a lock bar that looked like that, and the knife was bought new(got rid of it for that reason. didn't like the fact that it could only wear in as far as that lip). i'm fairly sure it was a benchmade though.

I have an Alias 2, don't worry, my Alias is exactly like your, same lock face:thumbup:
For sticky lock-up don't worry again, a little bit of normal wear will fix the problem, I suggest to you to NOT put any sort of lube or oil on the lock face, keep it clean, if it's dirty you can use a q-tip to clean the base of the blade (where the frame lock it).

Yup, I'm not worried about it any more, lock up is rock solid and several people say theirs is like that. It makes me wonder why other companies don't do it that way. The liner can't move over any more, yet the lock-up is good.
I found out not to put oil on it (locked up so tight I could hardly close it with two hands).
I did put some pencil lead on it and it is now as slick any frame lock:thumbup:!

I have the large and small Alias, from the initial production runs. Both have a very slight indentation on the locking bar. The Ti has to be machined to smoothly fit the blade and lock up properly, and that has to be done after anodization, so it will appear shiny. This is not "cast," because the Ti is not cast, but it is machined.

I can say without a doubt mine was never like that. I took mine apart enough time to have noticed that. Id say send it in to Benchmade. That isnt right.

An Alias II is going to be my next purchase so I did a ton of research and I do recall reading something that said with the Alias lock bar being curved like it is it had some sort of special property about it that made it unique. This indentation is probably what was referred to. Sorry I don't recall where I was reading that or I'd post up the link. If your still very worried I'd just call Bradley quick and ask them. Nice knife though! I'm having a hard time trying to decide which size Alias to buy for myself....I'm thinking I'm gonna get the II though??

Old thread but just for the record.

All 3 of my 635s had the same thing on their lockbar face. I am 100% sure and can maybe digg up some pix if needed.

It almost looks like something is inlaid on the tip of the lock bar. Maybe it's the pictures, but I recall that some makers either plate or inlay a small bit of carbide at the tip of the Ti lockbars to reduce lockbar wear.

That would be a very cool feature.

Why not contact Bradley and ask them?

I'd be highly surprised if there was any kind of insert in the lockbar, this is a benchmade after all. It may have been heat hardened as CRK does.

I also find it disturbing that a knife lock would be intentionally designed to limit lock travel. Essentially this means that after a certain amount of wear there will be blade play that can't be fixed.

I’d like to see pictures. If for no other reason then to look at knives;)

Hey, anyone know how that stop pin is taken out? It's the only one with no tool interface, but the guy who posted the pics of the locking bar managed to get it out. I just got my Alias 2 Monday and I like it. My locking bar wore in fast and locks up tight as well.
Thanks to any suggestions on the stop pin.
