Impeccable Knifemakers, who are they?

Richard Rogers has not been mentioned.

I'll second that. Richard is a quiet unassuming maker and is not prone to any hype at all. I own 10 or 12 of his knives and they are a direct reflection of his personality. Seamless finish, attention to minute details (even in places where few take time to look), blades perfectly centered and never in contact with other blades or liners.

I can't remember if Matt Cucchiara has been mentioned here or not. He IS an amazing maker!! His carving is specatacular.

I'll assume that since this is the custom knife forum, the question is around impeccable custom knife makers. Additionally, I'll assume that to be impeccable, that doesn't imply that one must be in the custom knife making business full time. Given those caveats, Chris Reeve is in this top shelf class. Although he has a strong portfolio of custom work, most people know that he no longer accepts custom orders to enable focus on other things. Here is the knife that Reeve is showing at this weekend's Plaza Cutlery Show:

The blade has a very interesting combination flat/hollow grind profile -- it starts hollow, then as it progresses toward the cutting edge, it goes flat. Way cool. Blade material is CPM154CM, Handle features Ti and 22 karat gold fittings. Clearly a demonstration of a little known side of Reeve that carries heavy influence in the precision and artistry of the CRK product line.

Darren Chard. Canadian maker, and obsessed with perfection.

All the others I can think of have already been mentioned.

Some people are not reading the entire thread.

IT IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST!.....

Glad to see I'm not the only one confused by some of the posts in this thread; perhaps my definition of 'impeccable' differs. As I stated earlier, I own knives (folders, anyway) from many of the makers mentioned in this thread and many of those makers are even friends. I love every knife I have purchased from them (or I wouldn't have bought them in the first place) but there's only one maker whose work, in my limited experience, I consider 'impeccable' and my vote stands, as cast.

An older thread but one that's worth a read through again for the new year :)

I'll add along with Tim Wright

Burt Foster, amazing workmanship and design in his knives!

I may NOT be adhering to the thread guidelines explicitly, as I have not bought knives from either of the gentleman, but my experience chatting with them at Blade and handling their knives, I would put them in the "impeccable" category.

Shane Taylor and Stan Wilson. They both were an absolute pleasure to talk to, and handling their knives was like handling a precision jewel.

I didn't notice either of them being mentioned, but in all the knives I handled in two full days at Blade 2008, theirs, to me, were impeccable no doubt.

It's interesting to look back to see some of the picks of 3 years ago to see where these makers are now.

I agree with a lot of the ones mentioned, but I absolutely can't believe that Scott Cook isn't mentioned more than he is. The Lochsa is impeccable. There's nothing more I can say about it.

I have got to say from the knives I have in my collection and seen these are the ones that are in my opinion are impeccable.

I know that there are many more makers out there but I have only seen photo's of their work so can't comment.

As they say in no particular order!

Kyle Royer
Nick Wheeler
Mike Quesenberry
Tim Hancock
Marcus Lin
Bruce Bump
Marcin Bona
Burt Foster
Josh Smith

+1:thumbup: Kevin.

In looking through this resurrected thread, it was interesting to me that there was some friction when the infamous Brad Duncan was suggested to be included. I guess those signs MEANT something afterall!

Also, I am surprised a couple names were omitted?

Howard Hitchmough makes predominantly folders, but the fit, finish and design are impeccable. He is a great guy as well.

Larry Newton is another. As nice of a guy as one could hope to deal with, SUPER talented, and he has won "Best Folder" at Blade.
