Imperial Barlow

Here is an older shot of my Barlow box. Some are Imperials and some are Colonials. As you can tell I like advertising knives.

Barlow Box ☺

Too bad you can't find Camilus, Schrade, etc. Barlows like you can Imperials. They seem scarce as hens teeth.

I hope someday to have a Barlow box, along with a scout box, a SAK box etc. so far I've got one box full and some overflow that I use more frequently so it doesn't live in a box

Good steel on those. Great blades in great steel. I got this one for a few bucks from a vendor's junk bucket at a gun show last year. To me, it's the epitome of what an American Barlow should be and once was --- a two blade jack with good blades of excellent steel at a price any working man and most boys could afford.

I grew up with Imperial Barlows while reading Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer so memories abound with these knives.

I already have a couple Imperial and one Colonial Barlow in pretty fair shape t̶o̶ ̶h̶o̶a̶r̶d̶ for back up. I picked this one up for $1 at a flea market a few weeks ago with a broken tip and loose scales. So now that I have a play knife the sandpaper and super glue come out. Putting an easy open notch in for my brittle nails opened a crack or two which just allowed more glue to be applied internal to the scales. Sanding it all while the glue was still wet closed everything back up with glue/sanding dust.

Anyways, now I have a nice tool. You would be surprised at what the shell scales will take actually. Who cares for $1?
...
I also got a unique Imperial scout knife with a sheepsfoot main and a scraper/screwdriver secondary like a TL-29. In good shape but with the celluloid covers almost gone, 1$ as well. For another post maybe.

Looking good, Dave; very nice mod job!:thumbup: You're living the dream! ;);)
I'd be interested in seeing a post showing off your Imperial scout knife, for sure!

That is an awesome box of barlows, edbeau!:cool: How long has it taken you to fill a box like that?

Very nice "six-pack" of classic barlows you have there, leghog!:thumbup:

I always am always on the hunt for another advertising barlow or electrician knife. I would guess around five years. The box is a little fuller now, that picture was taken a year ago.

You're quite a productive hunter; that boxful in 5 years seems very impressive to me. Congrats on your successful searches!:thumbup:

Seems like Barlows and electrician knives (TL-29?) are "cut from the same cloth", honest workingmans slipjoints. I'm just realizing that I'm beginning a TL-29 collection as well.
☺
"Sunday go to meeting" knives are important too, but it's nice to have a hunk of sharp steel you're not too protective of in your pocket at work.

I like the Camco's I've seen quite a bit. Rough but also sturdy, a Barlow

I do have an Electrician's Knife Box also but this thread is about barlows. I could be pushed to post a picture of it. :)

Okay I have been pushed! It isn't very current and there are a couple strays in the picture of the box.

I've got an advertising camco electricians knife from a local place. I got if for 2$ I want to clean it up someday.

I'm new to the forums and I know posting on here is a little bit of a resurrection, but I hate making new threads when perfectly good old ones exist.
So speaking of old ones, I found these when my grandfather passed and had them ever since. Both are Imperial 1956-1988 from the tang stamps.
The main blades are obviously different, does that change the model name of the knife? The pen blade on the left knife has three numbers (patents?) 2284833 2689400 2479855, does that help age the knife any?
Anyway, thanks for you patience and any help.

Funny that you recently resurrected this thread. I have an old Imperial Barlow that I found in our house when we moved in. It must have belonged to a previous owner. I've kept it in my pocket for years. Looking at all the pics of Barlows on here, they all have visible pins. This one does not. The blade is marked Imperial with a crown logo, and below that "Prov. USA". The smaller blade has three numbers stamped on it. Here's a pic:
