Howdy, do you have any additional info on these knives? I ask as you seem to have quite a few. I have one that was one of my grandfathers. I was always wondering the approximate age or exact blade steel. I'm assuming it's in the 10xx family?

Hi SuchUs3r,

These barlows are from the 56-88 timeframe. Since these were made in Providence RI, I believe they are 1095 carbon steel. When they started production in Ireland they switched to stainless. Here’s a handy chart you could check your grandfathers old knife against. Very popular old knife, nothing fancy, but will take a nice edge.

Wow, thanks so much for your thorough reply! It's definitely the 1095. I just reprofiled her and finished up on a surgical black arkansas and hotdamn! Looks like the last one on the chart, you're right on that too. I had a similar chart I found a few years back and lost the book mark before I could clean up the blade! Happy camper here!
