Anyone know of any good conversion charts or programs? especially for thousanths of an inch to mm its got me stumped to know how thick some of the steel and titanium etc. is, thats sold on knife supply websites when measured in fractions of an inch (eg. 60 000ths). all help much appreciated.:thumbup:

Or even better, would all you Americans mind going to the metric system? it would make things much easier for me anyways:D

Cheers!

25.4

IE:

.200" X 25.4" = 5.08mm

BTW, .200" is two hundred thou, .001" is one thou, .0001 is one "tenth"

sixty thou is .060" is 1.524 mm

or

25mm / 25.4 = .984"

EDIT:

Ga! This was my 999th post.. I got to think of something for 1000...

0.2" x 25.4 = 5.08mm

50.8mm is 2 inches.

You can always just go to google and type in verbatim: ".030 inches in mm" and it will spit out the answer.

*smacks forehead* Did I do that? Brain fart and common sense, but I'm not going to use my 1000th post on correcting something tnat dumb... Grrrr...

Google does it, too.

Just type the following into the google search bar - right where you'd type a normal search - and see what happens:

3 inches in mm

Works for all sorts of conversions, even currency.

Just buy a digital calipers measure the blade press a button and you get the other measurement .

I use both systems and have for a few years, I still think in imperial mostly, because I grew up on it. Its not that hard to do, but heres some shorthand that may help.
1mm = .040(roughly)
3mm = .120 .125 is 1/8"
5mm = .200 .188 is 3/16"
6mm = .240 .250 is 1/4"
If you really want frustration look up the apothecary measurement in imperial, I used to know them and the conversions, but I havn't usedf them in years, so they have slipped my mind.

As Delbert mentioned, every mm is ABOUT

.040 "

for eyeballing and knowing what is what...it's pretty close
